Total Adblock is an easy-to-use ad blocker from the makers of TotalAV Antivirus. Setup took less than five minutes, and once it was installed, it worked well without any extra configuration. The extension also shows how many ads and trackers it has blocked, which makes its performance easy to monitor.

What I liked

Ease of use: In testing, Total Adblock was simple to enable from the browser extension and required very little setup. I also liked that YouTube didn’t immediately display an anti-ad-block warning while it was active.

Transparency: The browser extension makes it easy to see how many ads and trackers were blocked, along with estimated data savings.

Workaround for YouTube mobile: Total Adblock offers a workaround for mobile viewing. Whitelisting: Total Adblock also lets you allow ads on specific websites if you want to support certain creators or publishers. To do this, open Acceptable Ads in the Settings and add the sites you want to whitelist.

What I didn't like

Surfshark's virtual private network (VPN) is affordable, allows for unlimited simultaneous connections, and includes an ad-blocking feature called CleanWeb. With a simple toggle in the Surfshark dashboard,, CleanWeb can block ads, trackers, and malicious content.

What I liked

Strong performance: Surfshark CleanWeb scored 96/100 in AdBlock Tester, with only minor deductions in contextual advertising checks. In my testing, it did a good job blocking intrusive ads, pop-ups, and cookie prompts.

Based on repeated hands-on testing, Surfshark CleanWeb has remained one of the more dependable options for blocking YouTube ads. It removed pre-roll and mid-roll video ads in our recent tests, allowing uninterrupted playback. 

Broad compatibility: CleanWeb 2.0 can do more than block YouTube ads. It also works on other websites and streaming platforms, which is why it’s one of our recommended ad blockers for Hulu.

What I liked
