NordPass is more than an add-on with NordVPN; it's a comprehensive and user-friendly password manager that stands on its own. All plans include xChaCha20 encryption, automatic syncing, a password generator, and multi-factor authentication.
While we found the free version of NordPass to be limited because it only allows you to be logged in on one device at a time, the paid version offers strong value. You'll receive password sharing, emergency access, and even extras like data breach scanning and email masking. It's also quite affordable, starting at only $1.49/mo.
Overall, NordPass is a quality product from a trusted name. Learn more about our experience testing this password manager in our review.

How we test and rate password managers
Our team has conducted hands-on testing on 30+ password managers. We install each product on our own devices and test it across both mobile and desktop, evaluating how well it handles saving, filling, and syncing credentials across real-world situations.
We evaluate each product across five areas:
- Editor's score (15%): We factor in our own assessment of the user experience, onboarding, and anything else not captured by the other criteria.
- Value (15%): We compare the lowest and highest plan prices and free trial length, assess how many users a subscription can cover, and check whether a free version is available.
- Features (35%): We test the core functionality every password manager needs: autofill, cross-device sync, and password generation. We also evaluate sharing tools, import support, digital legacy options, password strength reporting, and passkey support.
- Compatibility (10%): We assess availability across desktop apps, mobile apps, and browser extensions.
- Trustworthiness and editor's score (30%): We review each product's Trustpilot rating and assess overall trustworthiness, including encryption standards, audit history, and whether the privacy policy confirms user data is never sold.
Star rating summary
NordPass is our top password manager recommendation with a near-perfect star rating of 4.9. It's easy to use, affordable, and offers all the features you need for simple and secure password management.
NordPass was docked only in the trust category because of its 4.0 Trustpilot score.

Our experience
The NordPass password manager was easy to download and install, and the online tutorial helped us set up our profile right away.
We imported passwords from other browsers and password managers, which let us set up our account quickly. NordPass gave us clear instructions so all we had to do was download the passwords from our browser and upload the file to NordPass. The whole process was seamless and only took a second.
With our passwords moved over to NordPass, our next step was to test the autofill feature. When launching a site with a saved password, our credentials were already filled in so all we had to do was click the login button. If we had multiple accounts for the same site, it was easy to choose the appropriate one using the built-in dropdown.
The dropdown was also easy to use on sites we didn't have an account for yet, allowing us to select our email from the dropdown and create a strong password without leaving the page or typing anything.
The only issue we had was while setting up emergency access. We tried to test emergency access by sharing with our personal email. NordPass let us know that "emergency access cannot be given to this account" but provided no explanation as to why.
We assume that a NordPass account is required to receive emergency access, but it doesn't make this clear.
NordPass prices and plans
NordPass has a free version and premium plans that cost $1.49–$3.69/mo. Your price will depend on your subscription length, either one year or two years, and how many people you need to cover.
While the free version has basic features like a password manager, autofill, and a password generator, the Premium plan allows you to stay logged in to all devices simultaneously while also allowing for password sharing, health reports, and a data breach scanner.
If you need a password manager for the entire family, the Family plan costs a little more per month but allows up to six separate user accounts.

NordPass is competitively priced compared to other password managers. For example, Bitwarden comes in with a robust free product and a premium package for $1.65/mo. 1Password, on the other hand, doesn’t offer a free product and starts at $2.99/mo.
For the number of features you get, the NordPass Premium plan is a good deal. NordPass doesn’t have such a robust free product, but tthe features included in the paid plan help differentiate it from competitors.
When you sign up for the free product, you receive a 30-day free trial to the Premium subscription. NordPass also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on paid plans.
NordPass features
NordPass offers many of the same features as other password managers to secure your information, but with the reliability of the Nord name. One standout feature is the xChaCha20 encryption used by NordPass instead of the standard AES 256-bit encryption algorithm.
Additionally, NordPass uses multi-factor authentication instead of limiting users to two-factor authentication, and it incorporates biometric passwordless authentication into its platform.
Importing and exporting passwords
NordPass provides a great spread of options for importing passwords, from browsers, other password managers, and spreadsheets. When you select a way to import, NordPass will also guide you through how to export your passwords from it.
After we uploaded our RoboForm CSV with passwords, NordPass provided a preview of all our imported passwords. Our usernames and passwords all had the correct labels, so import was seamless.
You'll be prompted to import passwords when you first set up your account. You can also import and export passwords by selecting the settings gear and scrolling down to Import and Export.
Password sharing
With a premium plan, you can easily share a password from the three-dot menu beside each credential within your portal. You can share these passwords with other NordPass members by entering their email.
When sharing, you can customize the level of access the person you're sharing with has to the password. This includes letting them see the password or keeping the password hidden but still allowing them to autofill their credentials.
During our testing, we found it easy to share passwords. The one downside is that it didn't warn us when we shared the password with an email address that doesn't have a NordPass account, and the end user didn't receive a notification either.
Essentially, our invitation was lost in the void, which is a very confusing user experience. We would rather be notified that the user doesn't have an account.
Password generator
The NordPass password generator is located within the dashboard and allows you to create strong and secure passwords in two ways.
First, you can autofill with a newly created password when signing up for a new service. You can also generate a new password independent of a sign-up if you need it to input later.
You can customize character count as well as the use of symbols, letters, and numbers that allow you to create up to a 60-character password or 10-word passphrase.
Autofill and form filler
The Personal Info feature in the NordPass dashboard allows you to create a personal profile that will autofill website form fields, including your address and full name.
You can even create multiple profiles to make it easier to fill out information for your family, friends, and more as needed. In addition to personal information, NordPass can autofill login credentials and credit card information.
Password health report
Password Health is another feature that's only available with the Premium subscription. NordPass will scan your passwords and determine if any are weak, exposed, or reused, and then break down all passwords into clear categories so you can fix the issues.
We tested this out by adding a deliberately weak password ("password123") into our vault. NordPass immediately flagged it within the entry and in the Password Health tab.
Digital legacy
The Emergency Access feature is exclusive to the Premium subscription. It allows you to designate trusted people to access your account in case of emergency and without entering your master password.
Once you give access to a trusted user, they can request access to your account at any time. If you don't respond within seven days, they'll automatically be granted access.
One thing to note about this feature, though, is that you can only grant access to another NordPass user. We tried to grant access to a relative who hadn't signed up yet and got an error that said, "Cannot give Emergency Access to this account. Please try another."
If you plan to use this feature, be sure that your loved ones at least have a free plan to allow for sharing.
Bonus features
It’s worth noting Nord’s approach to encryption, as it’s not the norm. NordPass explains that xChaCha20 encryption is faster to implement than AES-256 on platforms without AES hardware and that mobile platforms are moving toward xChaCha20.
As well as this encryption type, NordPass Premium plans get additional features like a data breach scanner and the ability to mask your email.
The NordPass data breach scanner can check to see if your email addresses or credit cards have been found in a data breach. You'll also receive alerts in real time if they're exposed in future breaches.
Email masking allows you to generate unique email addresses you can use whenever you're filling out forms or creating new accounts. That way, you can keep your primary email address private.
Finally, NordPass provides other conveniences with your account. For instance, Premium users can stay logged in on multiple devices, so you won't have to log in every time you switch from your phone to your computer and vice versa.
All paid plans automatically sync across devices, so you won't need to make updates on every device.
NordPass privacy policy
NordPass has an interesting approach to logs. App and crash error reports, device information, as well as app usage statistics are saved on the user’s device with no identifying information.
Logs of critical errors are only shared with the NordPass API automatically (with no identifying information) if the user has enabled crash reporting in the app's settings. Otherwise, the only one who can view or share logs is the user.
While we’re not a fan of logs, this isn’t an egregious policy. Companies have to walk a fine line when recording issues that can help make their service better, but users don’t want their information shared.
It appears that NordPass walks this line well, and we’re comfortable with the logs kept by NordPass.
NordPass third-party audits
Nord participates in both external and internal audits. The external audits are performed by a third party with whom Nord shares “access to various materials, documentation, source code, and other data NordPass operates on.”[1]
And for the internal audits, NordPass has a team constantly evaluating the product and fixing issues as they arise. NordPass received its last audit on personal plans in February 2020.[2]
NordPass also earned the SOC 2 Type 2 attestation in December 2023.[3] SOC 2 compliance means that NordPass has implemented effective security measures to protect your customer data.
Is NordPass safe to use?
Yes, NordPass is a safe password manager. Not only has NordPass never been hacked, it also uses zero-knowledge architecture for increased cybersecurity. What this means is that your data is encrypted and unable to be accessed by anyone who doesn’t have your device.
In light of the 2022 LastPass hacks, NordPass released a blog post outlining its own security measures.[4] NordPass only stores decryption keys on your device, so even if its servers are breached, the information can’t be decrypted.
Additionally, metadata and secret data, both located within the NordPass servers, are individually encrypted with at least two separate encryption methods.
Multi-factor authentication
NordPass offers three options for authentication: an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator), security keys, and backup codes. We were able to quickly create a backup code that we saved to our hard drive as a PDF.
As another added layer of security, NordPass offers biometric authentication, which means your fingerprint or Face ID can be used to unlock your account on compatible devices.
All NordPass users can turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA), whether you’re using a paid or free plan.

NordPass user reviews
- Apple App Store rating: 4.7/5
- Google Play Store rating: 4.5/5
- Trustpilot rating: 4/5
The NordPass app has high star ratings on the iOS and Android app stores. The featured reviews on the Apple App Store praise NordPass's strong security standards and ease of use. However, the most recent reviews on the Google Play Store mention autofill issues in both positive and negative reviews.
NordPass is labeled as great by Trustpilot, with 80% of reviewers leaving a five-star rating. While the high ratings don’t come exclusively from customer service, many of the reviews share praise of individual customer service representatives by name.

Bottom line: Is NordPass good?
Yes, NordPass is made by a trusted name and provides an excellent product. The end-to-end encryption offered by NordPass means your data is safe and protected. Since this encryption is on every version, including the free version of the product, you can trust you’re getting one of the best password managers on the market.
As far as features, we wish there were more offered in the free product, but we were pleased with what was included. Our ability to save profiles, credit cards, and import passwords from other storage areas was really all we needed in a password manager.
We were also pleased with the Secure Notes feature and the free password sharer offered on the NordPass website. After exploring the dashboard and looking through NordPass, we're confident this password manager is a great choice.
