While Aura Ad Blocker has decent ad-blocking capabilities, it's best for people looking for comprehensive online security tools. Aura’s Ad Block and Anti-Track comes bundled with other digital security tools like a password manager, antivirus software, a VPN, and more. However, the ad blocker doesn’t outperform Total Adblock.

How we test and rate ad blockers
Every ad blocker in this guide is hands-on tested by our team using a consistent process. We evaluate each product across six areas:
- Test results (34%): We run each ad blocker through AdBlock Tester and Can You Block It, recording scores for each. We also browse ad-heavy sites in real-world conditions, including watching YouTube videos and visiting Forbes, to verify day-to-day performance.
- Value (21%): We evaluate each product's cost relative to its blocking performance, factoring in starting price, money-back guarantee length, and the number of devices covered under a single subscription.
- Features (18%): We test each ad blocker against a six-point checklist covering its ability to block pop-up ads, trackers, YouTube ads, banner ads, and push ads, as well as whether it includes whitelisting functionality.
- Editor's score (15%): We use each product ourselves across supported platforms, evaluating how intuitive the interface is and anything else that affects day-to-day use that isn't captured by our other criteria.
- Customer support (7%): We evaluate the support options available, prioritizing human support options like live chat and email.
- Compatibility (5%): We review each ad blocker's compatibility across desktop apps, browser extensions, and mobile apps to determine how broad its device and platform coverage is.
We test all ad blockers at least twice a year to ensure our recommendations stay current. We test across Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS so our results reflect real-world performance on the devices most readers actually use.

For long-term savings, it's best to take advantage of the first-year discount, as it provides the best value overall. Total Adblock and Aura have comparable prices for the first year, but the Total Adblock discount is slightly cheaper.
However, this changes with the renewal rate. Total Adblock prices renew at $99.00/yr annually, while Aura Ad Blocker goes up to $69.99/yr annually. Aura provides much better savings after the first-year discount ends.
Total Adblock plans
Total Adblock has a free version and a premium plan. Here's how these two tiers differ:
- Total Adblock Free: Total Adblock's free version has basic ad blocking features, so it doesn't work on banner, pop-up, and video ads.
- Total Adblock Premium: This premium tier offers unlimited ad and tracker blocking, including on banner, pop-up, and video ads. It also includes TotalAV antivirus and PC Tune-Up device optimization tools.
You can try Total Adblock Premium for free with its seven-day free trial. You can also submit a refund request within 30 days of the annual plans and 14 days of the quarterly plans, but these requests must be approved by the Total Adblock team.
Aura Ad Blocker plans
Aura Ad Blocker has only one plan, but it can be bundled with other Aura services. On top of the ad and tracker blocker, it also covers three devices for the password manager, antivirus program, and VPN.
Aura has a more generous money-back guarantee than Total Adblock, offering a 60-day period to try out its services. It also has more security features than Total Adblock, including a password manager, a user-friendly VPN, and antivirus protection.

Total Adblock has more customization features than Aura. It includes whitelisting, allowing you to selectively enable ads and trackers for specific sites. It's an essential feature since some ad blockers can interfere with a site's functionality. Total Adblock Premium also includes award-winning antivirus protection with TotalAV.
Total Adblock offers antivirus protection and device optimization. But Aura offers additional security features besides ad blocking. Aura provides a password manager, scam and antivirus protection, and a virtual private network (VPN). While these aren't essential tools, they can help with protecting your online identity.

We conducted three tests on Total Adblock and Aura Ad Blocker to determine their ability to block ads and trackers. Overall, Total Adblock performed better. It had a perfect score with the AdBlock Tester, which means it successfully blocks contextual advertising, analytics tools, banner ads, and error monitoring.
Aura also achieved a 100/100, steadily increasing its score since we first started testing the service.
Total Adblock also passed all three Can You Block It tests, seamlessly removing the interstitial ad, ad blocker detection warning, and banner ads from our webpage. Aura was close, but we still had to sit through an interstitial ad even though the content of it was blocked.
But when it comes to blocking YouTube ads, Total Adblock was superior. With the extension enabled, we never had to sit through a pre-roll ad or deal with banner ads cluttering the screen.
When we tested Aura, it had mixed results and didn't always successfully block ads. We found that while Aura Ad Blocker blocked YouTube ads from autoplaying, they were still visible on the screen, and we had the option to either wait or click “skip.”
We had a more consistent experience blocking video ads while testing Total Adblock.

Both Aura Ad Blocker and Total Adblock offer browser extensions, but Total Adblock also offers apps for Android, Samsung, and iOS devices. The app is convenient for blocking ads across the entire system, rather than just a specific browser.
However, downloading and installing it on Android requires some effort since it's not available through the Google Play store. It's a bit risky to download apps outside of the Google Play store, and your device will give you a warning that the file may be harmful.
Aura has better customer support options. It has 24/7 customer support, which Total Adblock doesn’t provide. Aura also has live chat and phone support. To receive help with Total Adblock, your only options are a knowledge base and an online form.
