Wipr vs. 1Blocker at a glance

Ad blockers are great additions to your security stack, so having one built specifically for your operating system means it’ll work without an issue. Both Wipr and 1Blocker are extremely affordable, and both are built for macOS and iOS products.

Wipr is a solid blocking tool, but it lacks any additional features or customization options. 1Blocker offers many more features but may require more attention on a regular basis. It allows you to customize which blocking toggles you’re using, whitelist or blacklist sites, and turn on your firewall.

Wipr is a one-time purchase, so you never have to buy it again. Your purchase also includes any updates or upgrades released by the developer. While there isn’t a free version, the price is so low that anyone can fit it into their budget.

1Blocker offers a free version where you can use any of the features but only one at a time. You can also purchase 1Blocker as a monthly, yearly, or lifetime subscription.

We’re big fans of evergreen software, like 1Blocker’s lifetime subscription, which lets you purchase once and enjoy it forever. Considering how many features 1Blocker offers, this is a great deal.

Since the two products offer so many different features, the one-time price you pay for either is a good deal if it meets your requirements.

Winner: Wipr. It has a low, one-time price that includes updates.

Because Wipr is more of a set-and-forget product, there aren’t a lot of the same customizations that 1Blocker offers. If you’re looking for ad blocking capabilities that include being able to both block and allow websites, 1Blocker has that option. If you want something that includes intense tracker blocking, 1Blocker also has that capability.

1Blocker's list of general filters to use for ad blocking on Safari.

We found the cookie rejection feature on 1Blocker especially helpful. When it’s turned on, you’ll never see another cookie request on a website. It automatically rejects them for you, saving you the hassle of having to do it yourself while also keeping your data more secure.

One caveat is the firewall feature on 1Blocker. It’s so strong that sometimes we have to disable it to access pages or emails. While this means it's working, it also means that sometimes it works a little too well.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for an ad blocker that you install and then don’t have to think about again, Wipr is more likely the choice for you. It’s powerful enough to block a lot of ads while also being effortless.

Wipr is simpler software that comes from a single developer rather than a corporation. A lot of ad blockers include features like an ads blocked counter and blacklisting, but because of the developer’s resources, this isn’t an option for Wipr. If you want these features, 1Blocker may be a better choice.

Winner: 1Blocker. It offers more features, functionality, and customization than Wipr.

While both products offer ad and tracker blocking, 1Blocker is more powerful. However, this is only applicable to the paid version. The free version allows you to use one feature at a time, making 1Blocker significantly less effective.

For instance, if you want to block ads, you can use the Block Ads toggle, but your device will still be susceptible to trackers, web annoyances, and more.

Since Wipr doesn’t offer a free version, we can’t compare them to one another. We can only compare the paid products.

Both blockers recieved the same score on the Adblock Tester website. However, Wipr only scored 1.5/3 on Cover Your Tracks, which means it isn’t doing a great job hiding you from online trackers. 1Blocker scored 2.5/3, effectively blocking tracking ads and invisible trackers.

1Blocker passed 2/3 of Cover Your Tracks tests

Wipr did score perfectly on the Can You Block It site, which means the app does what the developer claims.

However, you should consider the effort each requires. If you want something effortless, Wipr is a great choice. If you want something with more features and customization, 1Blocker is it.

Winner: Tie. While 1Blocker is more powerful against trackers, the two are pretty equally matched.

Both programs are extremely easy to use. Wipr requires a simple installation that doesn’t need further configuration once it’s done. 1Blocker is an equally simple installation with a user-friendly interface for when you want to customize it further.

Wipr is a simple but effective ad blocker for macOS and iOS

1Blocker's firewall feature, which can be used to block in-app trackers.

Considering that many products either lack features or have shoddy functionality when translated over to a macOS or iOS platform, it’s nice to have a clean, easy-to-use program.

As far as support is concerned, neither program offers many options. 1Blocker offers a chat, but it keeps office hours. Wipr offers email support, but you’ll need to wait for a response as it’s run by its developer who answers emails. Both offer the ability to search through online guides for answers to more commonly asked questions.

Winner: Tie. Wipr and 1Blocker both offer great Apple product integration and similar support features.
