1Blocker pros and cons

1Blocker is designed specifically for Apple operating systems and the Safari browser. While that makes it an ideal selection for users with iPhones and Macs, it leaves out a large portion of the population.

  • Robust customization and filters for Safari
Cons
  • May cause functionality issues with emails, websites, and apps

1Blocker offers a pricing tier that allows you to choose between monthly and annual payments. If you select an annual subscription, you’ll get a discounted price with about 50% savings. Due to the significant savings, we chose 1Blocker’s Yearly plan as its best-value option. New customers can also take advantage of a free 14-day trial to test the 1Blocker features.

We believe AdGuard’s Family plan offers the best value. It stops ads on up to 9 devices and only costs a few dollars more per month. It’s the more economical plan, and you still get the same features. Additionally, AdGuard offers a 60-day money-back guarantee, giving users ample time to test all the features and receive a refund if the product is not satisfactory.

The biggest selling point for these stellar ad blockers is the offer of a lifetime license. This means you can pay a one-time fee and have unlimited access to the software and all its included features. So even though it's more for AdGuard's lifetime plan, you will receive extra security features like parental controls (with the Windows app), browsing security, browser assistant, DNS leak protection, and Stealth Mode (which helps keep your IP hidden by blocking tracking cookie scripts).

Winner: AdGuard. 1Blocker offers its ad blocker at a lower price, but AdGuard plans include a robust system of features and offers blocking across diverse platforms.

1Blocker and AdGuard offer the same features for ad blocking. However, while AdGuard works across almost any platform or device, 1Blocker was designed specifically for Apple devices. Since many software programs leave out features Mac and iOS users would like to have, finding a product that caters to these devices is rare.

1Blocker dashboard open on Block Ads tab

The impressive lineup of features these ad blockers offer allows you to customize the content you do and do not want to see. Neither one of these products bypasses paywalls, but that isn’t a surprise. Websites don’t want you to get through without paying, so they don’t make it easy for you.

However, with AdGuard premium plans, you also get parental controls (with Windows app), browsing security, browser assistant, DNS leak protection. You can also purchase AdGuard VPN separately, but use it concurrently with the ad blocker dashboard.

Winner: AdGuard. Even though both offer comparable ad-blocking features, premium AdGuard plans include more extras, like parental controls.

Users need to know how an ad blocker works in real-world environments. During our testing, 1Blocker and AdGuard sailed through the Adblock Tester section and received high scores.

The Cover Your Tracks test checks how well the ad blocker stops trackers. 1Blocker provided partial protection across the board, whereas AdGuard was more effective at blocking trackers.

1Blocker's Cover Your Tracks test results (1.5/3)

AdGuard's Cover Your Tracks results (2.5/3).

AdGuard even offered a nearly-unique fingerprint, pushing its overall score past the industry standard of 2/3 for premium ad blockers.

The Can You Block It test helps identify if your ad blocker is working as intended. Testers go through various ad formats to see what gets blocked and what gets through your ad blocker. AdGuard outperformed 1Blocker again in blocking various ad types, including interstitial ads.

Winner: AdGuard. Both ad blockers can stop banner ads and other typical annoying ads, but AdGuard proved to be more effective at stopping trackers than 1Blocker.

AdGuard has better compatibility because it works across numerous browsers and operating systems, whereas 1Blocker was built for Apple devices only.

Apple users are accustomed to products being geared toward Windows, so finding an ad blocker with features designed specifically for them is a rare feat.

We were impressed with 1Blocker during our testing of it on iOS and macOS. The interface was easy to use, and the only issue we had was with toggling the ad blocker on and off in Safari for iOS. There were no issues when performing that same function on our MacBook Pro.

Likewise, AdGuard was easy to navigate, and during our testing, we noticed no lag time in the system while using the product. It even saved some data, which was an unexpected bonus. You can see the number of ads blocked, the data saved, and the threats and trackers blocked.

The statistics features are somewhat unclear, as they display numbers for Privacy and Ad Blocking, but we were uncertain how these metrics aligned or what they meant.

Winner: AdGuard. It offers broader compatibility than 1Blocker. Although Apple users may prefer a product customized for them, AdGuard maximizes its benefits across various platforms.
