How we test and rate antivirus software
We use our proprietary grading rubric in all of our testing, which considers ease-of-use, third-party testing scores, internal testing scores, price, compatibility, and features offered, among other metrics.
This means that our testing process is designed to ensure that the product isn't too confusing, protects as it claims, and offers you a lot for a reasonable price. We download and run each program on our own computers on home networks, just like you would. Our ratings reflect the real-world performance of the antivirus product. This ensures that we can recreate a similar experience for you and give our best advice on whether or not it's worthwhile.

Norton 360: Best for comprehensive protection
Who it’s best for
Anyone looking for a security suite that protects individuals and families both online and in the real world. Norton 360 plans offer antivirus, password management, a virtual private network (VPN), and identity theft protection with one of the highest identity theft insurance premiums available.
What we liked
Norton 360 has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for protection for one or more devices, parental controls, identity monitoring, or something else, Norton likely has software that will cover your needs. The password manager feature is included with even the most basic of Norton 360 plans as well as the Norton Antivirus Plus plan.
Since Norton has been around a long time, it really knows what it’s doing when it comes to security and protection. It consistently receives high scores in third-party evaluations, offers plenty of features, and has solutions for most of the problems you’ll encounter online.
Norton brings this experience and quality to its password manager with features like a complex password generator and biometric login options like Face ID. We like that we can trust Norton.
What we didn’t like
All of Norton’s features don’t come cheap. The service can get pricey, especially on renewal. Compared to competitors, it’s definitely at the high end of price ranges for antivirus software renewals.
Many of Norton’s offerings come a la carte, which adds up quickly. If you want to purchase Norton 360 + LifeLock for your entire family, you’ll see prices that are sometimes double its competitors. We get that Norton is top of the line, but, in this economy, we don’t love the prices.

McAfee: Best for online features
Who it’s best for
Anyone who wants a variety of online protection features. McAfee offers the ability to monitor your social media, clean up your online accounts, and even protect your text messages from scammers.
What we liked
McAfee’s password manager isn’t the only extra feature you’ll enjoy. You can use McAfee not just for its proven protection against viruses and malware but also to protect your social media accounts, keep an eye on your bank accounts, and monitor your identity. It’s great for enhanced online protection.
We also like that McAfee has years of cybersecurity experience. The company knows what it’s doing, which is why it can offer such advanced protection in other areas as well. And if none of this matters to you and you only want simple cybersecurity, that’s also an option.
What we didn’t like
Since McAfee has the ability to detect text scams, we aren’t sure why its phishing protection isn’t more robust. They should be able to detect either one, especially if AI is being used.
McAfee’s Web Protection feature can identify malicious websites, but some may still be simple and harmless enough to evade detection. Hopefully, we’ll see that feature upgraded to advanced phishing protection soon.

TotalAV: Best for device performance
Who it’s best for
Anyone wanting additional protection for their devices. TotalAV offers system tune-up tools, a disk cleaner, and integrated protection for iOS and Android devices all in one plan.
What we liked
We found TotalAV to be extremely easy to download, install, and use. It’s also the most affordable of our top three choices, which means there’s a plan to fit your budget.
What we really like about TotalAV, however, are all of the features that help keep your devices clean and running smoothly. The disk clean-up and system tune-up tools can clear the junk from your folders and drives to ensure your computer is running at peak performance.
TotalAV offers comprehensive phishing protection that can identify lower-quality and spoofed websites that may contain harmful coding. Since phishing, at its core, is a way to trick you out of your data, it can sometimes be more difficult to detect.
Cybersecurity protection keeps you safe from viruses and malware, but successful phishing attempts can give hackers the ability to access your accounts with valid credentials. By using TotalAV’s anti-phishing protection and password manager, you can protect yourself from those invasions as well.
What we didn’t like
TotalAV has a lot of positives like advanced features and reasonable pricing, but it caps out at six covered devices. This could become a problem if you want to use TotalAV to cover all of your family’s devices. We wish it would increase device coverage, especially since it’s compatible with so many different operating systems.

Best antivirus with a password manager FAQs
Which antivirus has the best password manager?
Norton 360, McAfee, and TotalAV all have great password managers. If you were to pick any of these antivirus services, you would get a powerful and useful password manager to complement it.
Using a password manager increases your account security because you don’t have passwords floating around. Additionally, you have the ability to create longer and more complex passwords for all your accounts without worrying about forgetting them.
Does Norton have a password manager?
Yes, Norton 360 has a password manager built into its plans. Even the Norton Antivirus Plus plan, which doesn’t have as many features as Norton 360 services, includes a password manager. Which Norton plan you choose will depend on your individual needs.
Does Bitdefender include a password manager?
Yes, Bitdefender Premium Security and Ultimate Security plans both include password managers as well as a host of other security features. Bitdefender does have other device protection plans, but they don’t include password management.
If you want to purchase Bitdefender’s password manager separately, it’s compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
Do security experts recommend password managers?
Yes, security experts recommend password managers for a variety of reasons. First, password managers are encrypted ways to store your login credentials.
Second, this software allows you to share passwords and other information securely.
Finally, it encourages you to use more complex, unique passwords for all of your accounts. If you don’t have to be responsible for remembering or even typing in your passwords, you’re more likely to use a complex and random string of numbers, letters, and characters to protect your credentials.
Bottom line: The best antivirus programs with a password manager
Norton 360, McAfee, and TotalAV are some of the best antivirus software available and include the added bonus of a password manager. All of these products rank highly on independent, third-party testing sites. We’ve tested them and found them all to be quality products worth your time and money.
Norton 360 gives you all-around protection both online and offline. McAfee increases your internet security with intuitive features.
