Bitdefender SecurePass Review 2025: Is It Good Enough for Your Passwords?

Bitdefender SecurePass is a great option to securely store your passwords, especially if you already use other Bitdefender products.

Previously known as Bitdefender Password Manager, Bitdefender SecurePass is an improved and more comprehensive service. It now offers a variety of import options, password sharing, and two-factor authentication for items in your vault.

How we test and rate password managers

We put every password manager through vigorous hands-on testing by downloading the software to our own devices. We test how the product works on both mobile and desktop, evaluating how well we're able to save, share, and use passwords across a variety of situations.

By taking a fine-tooth comb through all available features and settings, we carefully compare each product using our proprietary grading rubric. The star ratings take into account price, features, extras like cloud storage and data breach alerts, plus looks at security and privacy features like encryption levels and past data breaches.

To learn more about how we test, check out our full testing methodology here.

Our experience

We enjoyed our experience with Bitdefender's new and improved password manager. We installed the Google Chrome extension on our laptop.

After we installed the extension, SecurePass walked us through the new features, how to disable your browser's built-in password management, and more.

Bitdefender SecurePass now offers password sharing, which is a positive change. You can send passwords directly to someone's email or with a password-protected link. Plus, you can customize the permissions, so you can decide if want you someone to only read your password or become an admin.

The autofill feature worked well to fill out our imported passwords and save any new accounts we logged in to. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for form filling, as our email and full name wasn't filled out while creating a new account.

For instance, we tried creating an account on Barnes & Nobles' website after adding our identity information to our vault. SecurePass only suggested generating a password, despite having saved our identity details saved.

Overall, Bitdefender SecurePass is a great option to securely store your passwords, especially if you already use other Bitdefender products.

How much does Bitdefender SecurePass cost?

Bitdefender SecurePass cost ranges from $2.49-$2.99/mo. All plan options offer the same features, the only difference is the length of your subscription term.

If you’d like to bundle services, you can get Bitdefender SecurePass with Bitdefender Premium Security. This antivirus software plan also includes security features like a virtual private network (VPN) with unlimited traffic, parental controls, identity protection, and more for $34.99/first yr.

As password manager prices go, we think this one is about average. The individual plan for NordPass is the same, but the family plan is a bit cheaper, coming in at $2.79/mo (billed every two years), and it covers up to six people.

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly product, RoboForm has a free plan and a premium plan that costs only $0.99/mo (billed annually).

Bitdefender includes a 30-day money-back guarantee in case you don’t like the password manager.

Bitdefender SecurePass features

Bitdefender SecurePass offers common features like autofill, a password strength advisor, and the abilty to auto-lock your account. If you want to import passwords from various file formats, Bitdefender has multiple options, like JSON, CSV, XML, and more.

We were also impressed by Bitdefender's dedication to protecting our data. Its data is encrypted locally, so no third party will have access to your information.

But Bitdefender SecurePass still lacks some features, like password organization capabilities, passwordless authentication, and a formal digital legacy feature.

Importing and exporting passwords

Bitdefender SecurePass has a solid list of options you can import from. There are several password managers listed, including Bitwarden, LastPass, and Roboform. You can also import from Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

SecurePass doesn't offer instructions on how to export from these password managers, but we did appreciate the variety of options. We selected the Roboform option and all of our files imported perfectly in the correct fields.

You can import and export passwords from the Settings tab. Your export file options are JSON and CSV files.

Password sharing

Bitdefender SecurePass now offers several options for password sharing. You can share passwords with others via email or you can generate a password sharing link.

We tested generating a shareable link and opened it on our personal browser. Although we didn't password protect the entry, we were still prompted to enter a password to unlock the vault item.

This could be a glitch. We went back and added a password for the link share and were able to unlock it without issue.

Password generator

Our testing proved that Bitdefender's password manager was seamless to use. From the Bitdefender extension, you just need to click the Generate password tab, where you’ll see new password options. It’s set up to use 16 characters, but you can choose as few as four and as many as 32.

There are also checkboxs you can select to use all characters or just easy-to-type characters. You can even check the password history to see previously generated credentials that are temporarily stored for easy access.

Autofill and form filler

Bitdefender can fill in your login credentials automatically when visiting any of the accounts saved in your account. Just look out for the SecurePass icon in the login fields and click them to autofill.

For instance, we visited the Norton Password Manager website to log in to our account. Bitdefender's extension popped up with our credentials, along with the option to switch to a password generator in case you want to change your password instead.

Password strength report

The Security Report tab shows you exactly where you stand with your online security credentials. To find this feature, you'll need to open the extension and click the shield tab at the top.

It also covers more than just password strength. Bitdefender has tabs where you can find weak passwords, duplicate passwords, and old passwords.

We selected the Security Report tab from the main menu and selected run security scan. SecurePass flagged our Norton Password Manager entry, which we had entered as "password123," and prompted us to change it.

Digital legacy

Digital legacy allows you to share your password vault with any designated people in case of an emergency. During our testing, we didn’t see any clear indication that Bitdefender has a digital legacy feature.

You could print out the PDF of your account recovery key and give it to your loved ones. However, we wish there was a formal feature for this.

Bitdefender SecurePass privacy policy

According to the password manager section of Bitdefender's privacy policy, your password vault is only accessible by you with your master password and encrypted key. Bitdefender can't access or control your passwords.

In general, Bitdefender collects your data for processing payments, your personal information when you create your account, and your email address as contact information. There is some data used for marketing purposes, but you can opt out if you wish.

Bitdefender states that it won’t reveal any personal information about users to third parties unless it has explicit consent to do so from the users. Even when you use a secure password manager, you may want to update your privacy settings for better online safety.

Bitdefender SecurePass third-party audits

On Bitdefender’s site, there’s no clear literature showing its password manager has undergone a third-party audit. We reached out to customer support to get confirmation of this, but they were never direct with their response (we can safely assume it hasn't).

Email from Bitdefender customer support

Customer support did share that Bitdefender has certifications that back up the security of the password manager. One of those certifications is ISO 27001, which is the international standard for information security.

Is Bitdefender SecurePass safe to use?

If you’re like many of us, you’ve learned that Google Password Manager isn’t safe and you’re looking for an alternative. Since Bitdefender uses AES-256-CCM, BCRYPT, and SHA512 encryption, we feel this password manager is safe to use.

SHA512 is used to protect the software from brute-force attacks and requires longer to guess the password than AES-256-bit alone. Meanwhile, AES-256 is considered to be the gold standard of encryption as its used by banks and government entities.

We also haven’t seen any information about Bitdefender being hacked, which supports this being a safe software.

Two-factor authentication

Bitdefender offers two-factor authentication (2FA) to secure your account better. No authenticator app is needed for this process.

You must set up 2FA in your vault settings. Under Lock & Security, you can set a pin to unlock your vault.

Bitdefender also supplies you with an account recovery key in the event that you forget your master password. You can copy the key to your clipboard to store on your device or download the recovery key PDF to print out.

Bitdefender SecurePass compatibility

Bitdefender SecurePass is compatible with the most common operating systems and browsers. The chances are good that you use at least one of these.

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome

  • Android

Bitdefender SecurePass customer service

Bitdefender offers video tutorials and troubleshooting guides to help users with various issues. There’s also a community where you can ask other Bitdefender members for assistance. If you’d like to speak to a customer support representative, you can connect by phone, chat or email.

We did reach out via chat to ask if Bitdefender conducts third-party audits for personal use, not only business use. Although the rep was friendly, they immediately directed our question to another team to handle via email.

We eventually received an answer via email, but they were never direct with their response.
