Hosting.com is the best WordPress hosting service for most users, offering the strongest combination of features and price. It includes automatic daily backups, unlimited PHP workers, and an AI website builder on all plans — extras that competitors often charge for or omit entirely. For small business owners and site owners who want reliable WordPress hosting without overpaying, it's the clear choice.

That said, other providers may be a better fit depending on your priorities. Kinsta is the premium option, delivering exceptional performance and granular control over plan specs for users willing to pay more. InMotion Hosting stands out for storage, starting at 100 GB of NVMe on its entry-level plan. This is far more than what Hosting.com or Kinsta offer at comparable price points.

Set aside a few minutes and take a deep dive with us into all three options below. This way, you can choose the best WordPress host for your website(s).

What we liked

Price point and value: Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting, hits the ultimate sweet spot with how much you pay and what you get for that money. Sure, there are cheaper WordPress hosting options online, but for a little more money, you’ll get a lot more with Hosting.com. Similarly, you might get more storage with InMotion or some premium features with Kinsta, but unless you really need those specs, there’s no point in paying higher prices for them.

AI website builder: Hosting.com’s AI site builder is very easy to use. Even someone building their first WordPress site can create a very aesthetic prototype in just a few clicks. (In fact, it’s comparable to DreamHost’s AI web builder.)

Automatic daily backups: Unlike many other WordPress hosting providers that either do not include automatic backups or charge for them as a premium feature, Hosting.com includes them on all plans.

Unlimited PHP workers: PHP workers handle how many simultaneous requests your site can process at once. Hosting.com offers unlimited PHP workers across all plans, so you won't hit a ceiling as your traffic grows.

What we didn’t like

Less customization: The Hosting.com plans are great, but they are what they are. There really isn’t any room to tweak plan specs in the same way that you can with Kinsta.

Test results

Our hands-on testing of Hosting.com revealed strong, consistent performance. Over an 8-day monitoring period, the mock site we built held a 99.989% uptime and scored 97.67 out of 100 on Dotcom-Tools' overall performance benchmark — not perfect, but impressive. The real standout was the stress test: Hosting.com handled 250 simultaneous visitors in 1 minute without breaking a sweat, maintaining a peak response time of just 745 ms during the surge.

Our experience using Hosting.com was very good. In addition to the performance results above, both support and security impressed us. Our longest wait time for a support ticket response was roughly 3 hours. When taking into account all of Hosting.com’s features, it’s an excellent value for the money. It’s by no means the cheapest WordPress host, but it’s not as expensive as Kinsta or InMotion, yet still delivers a comprehensive feature set.

Hosting.com earned a high star rating of 4.6 due to its comprehensive plans for any budget, with a free domain for the first year, 99.9% guaranteed uptime, comprehensive security, and more.

What we liked

Customized plans: The granular level of control Kinsta offers on its plans is rarely seen with other hosts. Users can adjust specs based on bandwidth or monthly visitors, and then scale across a wide range of limits.

Comprehensive security: Everything is covered. Security includes DDoS protection, multiple fully managed firewalls, malware scanning and removal, and free SSL certificates with wildcard support.

One-click staging: No need for plugins or third-party tools. Just tap, and your staging site is generated on demand.

Free CDN: Powered by Cloudflare, Kinsta’s CDN supports monthly bandwidth limits from 250 GB to 2,500+ GB and speeds up the delivery of your images and other assets.

What we didn’t like

No free domain: Granted, Kinsta is not a domain registrar, so this isn’t directly possible. However, for the asking price, it would be a nice gesture if Kinsta partnered with Cloudflare (for example) to offer free domains for the first year. Both companies would benefit, as would customers.

Automatic backups upsell: Most of Kinsta’s premium add-ons make sense and feel genuinely premium, but automatic backups should not be one of them. This should be included by default, just as it is on Hosting.com.

No native AI site builder: The lack of an AI site builder is likely because Kinsta’s target audience isn’t first-time WordPress users. However, some beginners might want premium WordPress hosting, and an AI builder would help them get started faster. You may want to consider DreamHost or Bluehost for quick WordPress site building.

Test results

We recently signed up for a Kinsta hosting plan and built a mock website, which we then ran through a series of tests to evaluate site speed, uptime, and the ability to withstand a sudden surge in traffic. Kinsta did really well across the board.

For site speed, we used a freemium online tool called Dotcom-Tools, and our Kinsta site scored 98 out of 100 in overall performance. For First Contentful Paint (FCP) and Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) — two of Google’s Core Web Vitals metrics — we saw 0.8 seconds and 0.9 seconds, which is well below Google’s recommendations for a positive user experience.[1, 2]

We monitored the site’s uptime for 17 days straight, and it maintained a flawless 100% score. For the final test, we deployed 250 users to the site in 60 seconds, with zero failures.

Star rating summary

Our experience using Kinsta was excellent, which isn’t surprising, given Kinsta’s reputation as a premium WordPress host. It performed well, security was top-notch, and support was solid. We love that Kinsta gives you the ability to fine-tune your specs and design a plan based around your usage, while giving you most of the same features across plans.

On the other hand, the pricing isn’t easy on the wallet, and depending on your needs, it might not make sense. For example, if you need a lot of storage space right away, InMotion will serve you better than scaling a Kinsta plan to $200/mo. Overall, Kinsta is an exceptionally good WordPress host, as long as you understand what you’re getting into.

Kinsta earned a solid star rating of 4.4 because it showed great performance, offers easy-to-use, WordPress-focused web hosting, and includes almost all features across all plans.

Kinsta only received a score lower than 4.0 in the value and capacity category because its expensive compared to other web hosting services.

What we liked

Massive amounts of storage: InMotion remains the undisputed leader in storage space for WordPress hosting. Its most basic entry-level plan includes 100 GB of NVMe storage. To get the same on Kinsta, you’d need to sign up for the most expensive multisite plan, which costs hundreds of dollars per month. It’s a similar story with Hosting.com.

Excellent security: All WordPress plans include a free SSL, malware, and DDoS protection, as well as a web application firewall. Although InMotion does not make it clear that it offers malware removal (only scanning).

Agency features at the highest tier: InMotion’s WP Pro plan includes a dedicated IP address and lets you manage multiple client sites on a single account.

High-power plans: In addition to the standard WordPress hosting plans, InMotion offers a separate UltraStack ONE set and a line of WordPress VPS options. These match some of the higher-tier Kinsta plans and, in certain aspects, exceed them.

Extended money-back guarantee: InMotion triples the industry standard length of 30 days and gives you 90 days. That’s plenty of time to decide if you like the service.

What we didn’t like

Automatic backups upsell: Just like Kinsta, InMotion also charges for automatic updates. Since we called Kinsta out for it, we have to do the same for InMotion. Both companies should follow Hosting.com and include automatic backups on all WordPress hosting plans.

Domain costs are too high: All plans include a free domain name in the first year, but it renews at $23/yr (for .com). If you want domain privacy, you’ll be charged an additional $15.99. That’s close to $40 per year just to maintain a domain name with InMotion.

Upsells left and right: InMotion adds an overbearing amount of paid add-ons to your shopping cart after you choose a WordPress plan. You have to manually delete each extra feature if you don’t want it. This creates friction in the checkout process and is just plain annoying.

Test results

After signing up for InMotion hosting and building a mock website, we ran the same series of tests that we ran on Kinsta and Hosting.com. The results were very good: The overall performance score was 99.6 out of 100, and uptime held strong at 100% after 6 days. Both FCP and LCP clocked in at around half a second, which is well below Google’s recommendations for these metrics. Lastly, InMotion handled the 250 visitors in a 1-minute stress test with no issues.

Star rating summary

If you need WordPress hosting with high storage limits, solid performance, and reliable customer support, then InMotion fits the bill. Overall, it’s a great service and probably the top choice for this specific use case (high storage). On the other hand, if you don’t actually require that much storage space, then other WordPress hosts (e.g., Hosting.com) offer lower pricing and lots of great features without the upsells.

InMotion earned a solid star rating of 4.4 because of its perfect performance during our testing, availability of basic features across plans, and having all the security essentials.

However, we had to dock InMotion in the experience category. The dashboard was difficult to navigate and it doesn't offer any guided WordPress tools.

How to choose a WordPress hosting provider

Selecting the right WordPress hosting provider can make a significant difference in how smoothly your website runs and how much time you spend managing technical details.

Here are the key features small business owners and site owners should prioritize when evaluating their options:

  • Straightforward setup. A hosting provider with an intuitive setup process lets you launch your site quickly without needing technical expertise. Look for one-click WordPress installation and clear onboarding steps so you can focus on building your content rather than troubleshooting configurations.
  • Seamless migration tools. If you're moving an existing site from another host, built-in migration tools can save hours of manual work and reduce the risk of losing data. The best providers offer automated migration plugins or dedicated support teams who handle the transfer for you.
  • Optimized site performance. Fast loading times directly impact user experience and search engine rankings, so your host's infrastructure matters. Look for features such as built-in caching, content delivery networks (CDNs), and solid-state drives (SSDs) to keep your pages loading quickly even during traffic spikes.
  • Automatic updates. WordPress regularly releases updates that patch security vulnerabilities and improve functionality, but manually applying them can be easy to overlook. A host that handles core WordPress updates automatically ensures your site stays current and protected without requiring constant attention on your part.
  • Security. Your hosting provider serves as your first line of defense against malware, brute-force attacks, and other threats. Essential security features include SSL certificates, regular backups, firewalls, and malware scanning. These features protect both your site and your visitors' data.

Bottom line: The best WordPress hosting services of 2025

Hosting.com is our top pick for WordPress hosting in 2025. It strikes the best balance between price and features, with automatic daily backups, unmetered visitors, unlimited PHP workers, free SSL, strong security, and solid performance included on every plan. For users who want a reliable, full-featured host without the premium price tag, it's hard to beat.

Kinsta is the better choice if you're willing to pay for top-tier performance and need fine-tuned control over your hosting specs. It's ideal for developers, agencies, or high-traffic sites. InMotion Hosting earns its spot for anyone who needs generous storage out of the gate: Its 100 GB baseline dwarfs the competition and makes it the go-to for media-heavy or content-rich WordPress sites.

How we test web hosting services

We use our proprietary grading rubric to evaluate web hosts based on performance, ease of use, features, support, and overall value. Our hands-on approach ensures our ratings reflect how each service actually performs in the real world, so you can choose a host with confidence.

Our process starts with signing up for each service and setting up a real website, just like you would. We run page speed, uptime, and stress tests to measure reliability and performance under load. We also explore the dashboard, test security tools, and contact support to see how responsive and helpful it is.

FAQs

Do I need WordPress hosting to build a website?

No, you don't need WordPress to build a website. There are many other web hosting platforms available. However, WordPress is the most popular website builder, powering almost half (~43%) of sites on the internet.[3] Due to its large market share and open-source nature, there are numerous resources and products for WordPress, making it easier to get started than alternatives.

Are there free WordPress hosting providers?

Yes. WordPress.com offers a free plan, and there are also free web hosting providers that let you install WordPress. Free WordPress hosting isn't meant for serious projects, though. In the case of WordPress.com, it's more of a "taste test" to get you to sign up for a paid plan. The other free hosting options have fewer restrictions on WordPress functionality (compared to WordPress.com's free tier), but come with their own limitations. For a real website, it's better to invest in a paid WordPress hosting plan — even a cheap one to start.

Should my domain and WordPress hosting service be under the same provider?

If you want to save money, then no. If you want convenience, then yes. The cheapest long-term domain registrar for most domain extensions (TLDs) is Cloudflare, because it sells domains at cost (i.e., it doesn't make any money on domain name sales). You can buy a domain through Cloudflare and then connect it to your WordPress host to save money. If you'd rather skip that step entirely, you can pay whatever price your WordPress host charges for domains.
