InMotion Hosting Review 2025: Is This Web Hosting Solution Any Good?

InMotion Hosting is a powerful web host for technical users, but its steep learning curve makes it unsuitable for beginners.

InMotion Hosting is a web hosting provider that’s best suited for developers and users with high-level technical skills.

Our InMotion Hosting review found that the user interface was outdated and unfriendly for beginners, especially compared to other hosts we’ve tested. We also had significant difficulties getting in touch with customer service.

We were impressed by its server performance, however, and the large amounts of storage offered with even the most affordable plan. These benefits may outweigh the drawbacks for some users, such as web developers, who are comfortable handling complex hosting tasks on their own.

Pros
  • WordPress management center lets you enable automated CMS and plugin updates
  • High storage limits
  • Excellent server performance
Cons
  • Outdated, overly complicated dashboard
  • Slow, ineffective customer service

How we test web hosting services

We use our proprietary grading rubric to evaluate web hosts based on performance, ease of use, features, support, and overall value. Our hands-on approach ensures our ratings reflect how each service actually performs in the real world, so you can choose a host with confidence.

Our process starts with signing up for each service and setting up a real website, just like you would. We run page speed, uptime, and stress tests to measure reliability and performance under load. We also explore the dashboard, test security tools, and contact support to see how responsive and helpful it is.

Our experience

We found InMotion immensely frustrating to work with, largely due to its outdated and cluttered interface. While the dashboard does include everything you need, it also includes many items that most users won’t need very often and that are usually reserved for cPanel or proprietary server/domain management tools. This can be overwhelming for beginners, and it makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for.

When we opened the WordPress management area, we were thankfully greeted with a more streamlined page with a link for installing the CMS.

The installation process itself was straightforward and included the option to download popular plugins like Jetpack. However, the interface was unattractive and lacked the level of guidance provided by other companies, like Hostinger and SiteGround. We also didn’t find any simple tools for migrating an existing site to InMotion Hosting.

Once installed, the WordPress setup was extremely bare bones. There’s no site assistant to help you figure out where things are or understand what your next steps should be. This is fine if you’ve used WordPress before or you’re comfortable learning new tech on your own, but it could be frustrating for first-time website owners.

Domain management is conducted through cPanel. Again, this system is fine for developers and people confident with learning new systems, but it’s nowhere near as beginner-friendly as the proprietary tools offered by companies like Hostinger.

InMotion Hosting CPanel Domains

Verdict: 3/5. InMotion provides everything you need to start a WordPress site, but its dashboard is difficult to navigate, and it doesn’t offer any guided WordPress tools like those offered by Hostinger or SiteGround.

InMotion Hosting plans and pricing

InMotion Hosting offers four shared hosting plans for WordPress users, with starting prices ranging from $3.49/mo to $11.29/mo.

Features WP Core WP Launch WP Power WP Pro
Annual price $3.49/mo $5.29/mo $5.29/mo $11.29/mo

These are fairly average starting web hosting prices. Other companies, like Hostinger and HostGator, typically charge between $2.99/mo and $4.50/mo during your first contract term. Renewal prices are slightly higher than the comparable costs with companies like Bluehost and Hostinger, but they’re still quite reasonable.

In terms of value, InMotion Hosting’s greatest benefit is the storage it offers. You get 100 GB on the WP Core plan, which is significantly more than the 10 GB to 25 GB that’s typically included with bottom-tier plans. This allows your site to grow significantly before you need to upgrade your hosting package.

However, the InMotion Hosting WordPress plans provide only a rudimentary WordPress installation process, rather than the fully guided setup offered by other companies like Hostinger. Similarly, you won’t get a site assistant or any other tools to improve the experience of the WordPress admin dashboard.

Verdict: 3.6/5. InMotion’s prices are reasonable, and the high storage limits can provide great value for bigger sites, like ecommerce stores. However, you’ll be missing out on some key features that you could get from other companies with similarly priced plans.

InMotion Hosting features

InMotion Hosting provides a reasonable range of features, including:

  • Free domain for the first year
  • Free SSL certificates
  • WordPress management center
  • Automated updates for WordPress, including plugins
  • cPanel
  • SitePad Website Builder
  • Unlimited email addresses

More advanced plans also include advanced caching and Cloudflare CDN integration to improve site speed.

Verdict: 4.5/5. InMotion Hosting provides the basic features you’ll need to run a website smoothly. However, performance-enhancing features like caching and CDN integration are available only on higher-tier plans, and there are no guided WordPress tools for first-time website owners.

Types of web hosting available

Most users will want to start with shared or WordPress hosting from InMotion Hosting. These plans offer plenty of storage and bandwidth for small- to medium-sized websites at very affordable prices. InMotion also offers VPS hosting and dedicated hosting for sites with more complex hosting needs.

Web building features

InMotion Hosting provides access to the SitePad Website Builder — a visual design tool for websites — and some basic WordPress management tools. However, you’ll likely spend most of your time editing your site within WordPress itself, and InMotion doesn’t provide any tools to simplify this part of the process.

WordPress integration

InMotion Hosting offers a WordPress Management Center that includes a quick install setup process. While it’s not quite as good as a one-click installation, it takes only a few minutes to set up. After installation, the WordPress Management Center lets you enable automated updates for the core CMS and plugins.

Web migration

The WordPress Management Center includes an Import Software feature that can theoretically be used to migrate a WordPress site from another host. However, this tool requires advanced information, like the FTP Username for the site, meaning that it’s unfriendly for beginners.

InMotion Hosting’s WordPress plans page says there’s also a free site migration plugin, but I wasn’t able to find this when building my site.

InMotion Hosting performance

We created a website with InMotion Hosting and conducted hands-on testing to simulate how users will experience InMotion sites. This included a speed test to determine how quickly our site loaded, 5 days of uptime monitoring to see how reliably the site stayed online, and a stress test to measure how our site handled a moderate influx of concurrent visitors.

Verdict: 5/5. InMotion Hosting performed very well in our performance tests, achieving 100% uptime, fast and consistent page loading speeds, and good results when faced with traffic spikes.

Speed test

Your site’s speed is measured in terms of how long it takes to load. We recommend aiming for a site speed of 3 seconds or less — the less time it takes, the better — as every second your visitors have to wait is another opportunity for them to go elsewhere.

We performed speed tests for Dallas, Montreal, and Strasbourg, and recorded the following results:

Product Performance score FCP LCP
InMotion Hosting average 99.6 0.53 s 0.63 s

Our site performed admirably, with loading times of significantly less than a second in all three of the locations we tested.

Uptime and response

Uptime is the amount of time your site is online and available to the public, measured as a percentage. InMotion Hosting offers a 99.99% uptime guarantee, promising that your site won’t go down for more than 2 minutes per week. This is better than the industry-standard guarantee of 99.9% uptime, which allows your site to go down for up to 10 minutes per week.

We spent 6 days monitoring our site with UptimeRobot to see if InMotion lives up to its above-average uptime guarantee and to get a feel for the usual response times (how long it takes the site to respond to requests from visitors’ browsers).

Product Uptime Average response time Minimum response time Maximum response time
InMotion Hosting average 100% 173 ms 130 ms 1456 ms

Our InMotion site performed well, with no downtime at all and an excellent average response time. The maximum response time of 1.46 seconds, while significantly higher than the average response time, still fell well within our 3-second rule.

This suggests that InMotion Hosting lives up to its above-average uptime guarantee and likely even exceeds it, providing a fast, reliable service for your visitors.

Stress tests

Stress test results: InMotion Hosting passed our stress testing.

We performed a stress test with Loader.io to determine how well InMotion Hosting would handle an influx of visitors. We sent 250 virtual users to our site over the course of 1 minute.

Every user accessed the site quickly and successfully, suggesting that InMotion Hosting’s servers are fully capable of dealing with large numbers of simultaneous visitors.

InMotion Hosting security features

Your web host should provide secure servers to prevent your site from being infected with malware or adversely affected by other forms of attack.

InMotion Hosting uses a few basic tools to keep your site safe:

  • HTTPS to encrypt data sent to and from your site, protecting it from malicious third parties
  • SSL certification to demonstrate to users and browsers that your site is secure
  • Firewall protection to filter out malware and other harmful traffic that attempts to infiltrate your site
  • DDoS protection to prevent your site from being overwhelmed by floods of malicious traffic intended to shut down your servers.

Unfortunately, automated backups aren’t included with any InMotion Hosting plans. The cPanel installation tool, Softaculous, does allow you to install a third-party plugin for automated backups, but this feature isn’t provided by InMotion itself. You also have to manually install it, rather than getting the feature automatically, like you would with a provider like SiteGround or Hostinger.

Verdict: 5/5. InMotion Hosting provides the absolute essentials for security, but not much more.

InMotion Hosting support and reputation

Support type InMotion Hosting
Email or live chat
Phone Only on higher-tier plans
Online guides or forums

InMotion Hosting provides a help center that’s cluttered in much the same way as the main dashboard. Luckily, there’s also a search feature so you can find what you need quickly, and the tutorials themselves are easy to follow.

InMotion Hosting offers customer service with support tickets and live chat. However, I had a dismal experience with the live chat support, waiting over an hour to hear from a support representative, rather than the few minutes’ wait that I’ve typically experienced with other hosts. The rep was eventually able to solve my issue, but it’s a very long time to have to wait for feedback.

InMotion Hosting user reviews

Trustpilot rating: 4.4/5

Most of the InMotion Hosting Trustpilot reviews are positive, emphasizing reliable uptime and helpful customer service.[1] However, its reviews on Reddit are the opposite of this, with multiple threads discussing slow customer service and poorly trained support agents.[2] [3]

Verdict: 4.7/5. InMotion provides a fair level of support, but accessing it can be unreasonably difficult.

Bottom line: Is InMotion Hosting good?

InMotion Hosting provides an acceptable service, but it’s disappointing in a number of respects. I found several parts of InMotion Hosting to be clunky and difficult to work with, and the poor customer service made it frustrating to get answers when I hit a snag. This might be fine for developers who are more comfortable with complex technology and fixing hosting issues themselves, but it makes InMotion a poor choice for beginners.

With that said, InMotion Hosting does provide an impressive amount of storage on its low-cost plans, plus unmetered bandwidth, which will be beneficial for high-traffic sites. This means it may be a worthwhile option in some cases, as long as you’re confident about handling the more complex aspects of hosting without much help.
