I do not recommend the Bluehost AI website builder. After spending three days trying to build a flower shop website with it, I’ve concluded that Bluehost’s approach of layering an AI builder on top of WordPress just doesn’t work very well. It promises the best of both worlds, but instead the two sides drag each other down. You’ll see how soon.
On the positive side, the product excels at its pre-configured WordPress setup, though that has nothing to do with the AI builder. It’s Bluehost’s standard approach to making WordPress more beginner-friendly. It’s also why Bluehost WordPress hosting remains a solid option for those who want to use WordPress to launch a site and prefer a ready-to-go solution.
On the other hand, if you’re not set on WordPress and your main goal is to publish a website as fast as possible using modern AI tools, you'll find much better alternatives to Bluehost’s AI web builder.
In the rest of this review, I will walk you through how I used the builder to create a website for Bodacious Bulbs, an imaginary upscale flower shop based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I’ll cover how much Bluehost AI costs and what you get for that money, plus I’ll cover features, performance, security, customer support, and online reputation. Let’s get to it.
- Builds a custom WordPress site that you can export
- Pre-configures the WordPress dashboard according to need
- Visual editor for quick (non-AI) edits
- All AI edits, regardless of complexity, are deducted equally
- Disjointed user experience with too many dashboards and separate AI tools that don’t communicate

How we test and rate web builders
Our team has conducted hands-on testing on 20+ website builders. We sign up for each service and build a real website from scratch, giving us a firsthand look at the full experience from onboarding to publish.
Then, we evaluate each product across six categories:
- Features (40%): We review the core tools bundled into each plan, including the number of contributors supported, storage limits, professional email availability, and whether a photo editor is included. We also test whether the builder provides ecommerce tools, site analytics, SEO tools, and AI tools.
- Design (25%): We assess the overall visual quality of the builder's output, including the size of the template library, the depth of customization available, and whether the finished site looks genuinely professional.
- Editor's score (20%): We evaluate the overall user experience of building a site, including ease of use, onboarding quality, publishing reliability, and anything else not addressed in the other categories.
- Value (5%): We compare entry-level pricing against what's included, and check whether the service offers a free plan or a free trial and money-back guarantee.
- Domain (5%): We check whether the builder supports connecting a custom domain and whether a free domain is included with paid plans.
- Customer support (5%): We determine how many direct support channels are available on standard plans.
We retest all website builders at least once a year. To learn more about how we test, read our full website builder testing methodology here.
We last tested the Bluehost AI website builder on August 19, 2026.
My experience
My experience building a website with the Bluehost AI website builder was not smooth. I understand the appeal of merging an AI web builder with WordPress, and I appreciate the ambition, but unfortunately, Bluehost’s execution leaves much to be desired.
The whole process with Bluehost AI is very disjointed, and it gets even more so when building an online store (which is what I did). You wind up dealing with multiple dashboards and multiple versions of your website, and they don’t always communicate well with each other. Let me walk you through it.
Getting started
I usually begin AI web-building projects by drafting a detailed vision of my website. That includes my target audience, how I want it to look and work, and what I want it to accomplish. This document forms the basis of my first prompt (i.e., the instruction you give the AI). I recommend the same for anyone learning to vibe code with modern AI tools.
Bluehost meets you about 20% of the way with 22 suggested prompts you can use as-is or edit to your liking. These prompts correspond to different kinds of websites, from dentist offices to restaurants. I began with the free trial (which includes five AI edits) and chose the flower shop design. I then edited the prompt to add details, such as my desired color scheme and font choices.
Next, I clicked the Use edited prompt button, and the Bluehost AI started working. About a minute in, it asked me to confirm my color scheme selection by giving me three choices, all of which were variations of the colors I specified in my prompt.
After I made my selection, the tool worked for another five or six minutes and finished the initial build. Then it outlined what it supposedly accomplished. On the list were five things. Of the five:
- One was completed successfully.
- Three were partially done.
- One was a user flow that was completely non-functional.
The non-functional user flow didn’t completely surprise me. I’ve encountered similar situations with other vibe coding tools during an initial build. However, I was thrown off by basic features like buttons not working or the homepage having an entire section with missing images.
These are elements that better AI builders handle without a second thought.
Deeper testing and debugging
The minor bugs I mentioned above became apparent to me almost immediately and were added to my fix-it list. I then tested the site more thoroughly, clicking everything meant to be clickable and immersing myself in the buyer’s journey.
That journey came to an abrupt halt when I tried to add a bouquet to my cart, got a success message, and found an empty cart at checkout. Thinking it might’ve been a one-off, I tried again. After several more tries with different flowers each time, I realized it was not a fluke.
"No problem," I thought. "This is simply how AI website builders work. I’ve been in similar situations before. All it takes is a prompt, and I should be on my merry way."
Except somehow "a prompt" became three:
Even worse, after the third prompt, the issue persisted. At that point, instead of beating a dead horse, I decided to try something different. I switched from the AI builder version of the site to the WordPress version just to see if it’d make a difference.
It did.
As soon as I landed on the WordPress side, I didn’t even need to test the user flow again because all of the bouquets I had added were waiting for me inside my shopping cart.
In other words, the cart was never broken. It just didn’t work inside the AI web builder version of the site.
On the bright side, I eventually figured it out, but I wasted three of my five free AI edits trying to solve something that didn’t even need solving. The other two AI edits went toward fixing the biggest problem on my list: building the custom bouquet builder. That didn’t get resolved either, so I signed up for a paid plan and marched onward.
Upgrading to the Sell Online plan and becoming even more disillusioned
I wish the miscommunication between the Bluehost AI builder and WordPress had been limited to that one Add to Cart issue, but it was the underlying theme of the whole project. Beyond that, the tool lacked basic reading comprehension. It repeatedly gave nonsensical responses that completely ignored what I asked for in my prompts.
Even simple requests, like making sure a broken jump-link button would speed-scroll to its on-page destination, proved too challenging for the Bluehost AI.
You can do this manually in WordPress in under 30 seconds. Unfortunately, you can’t do it manually because the Bluehost AI website builder setup locks down most standard WordPress functions. This is what I meant earlier when I wrote that the Bluehost AI website builder wants to give you the best of both worlds, but instead the two sides end up dragging each other down.
If you recall, I also stated that the experience felt even more disjointed when trying to build an online store. This is because to manage the store aspect of your site, the builder sends you to an entirely different page with a separate Bluehost AI system, and that AI system doesn’t communicate with the other one.
In practice, this means the "store AI" has no context about your website, so when I asked it to add 24 new products to my flower shop, it suggested products that have absolutely nothing to do with flowers. Then, when I gave it the proper context, it seemingly course-corrected for a brief moment, but it took six more prompts for it to actually add the products.
The upside is that prompts inside this separate store AI aren’t counted against your AI credit balance inside the main builder AI, but that doesn’t make the user experience any better. Bluehost’s engineers need to code this so that the two AI systems (the builder AI and the store AI) talk to each other. Maybe a cross-system markdown file with project context would do the trick.
The finish line was not crossed
I’m generally not a quitter, but after getting stuck in one too many circular prompting conversations (only a portion of which I shared above), I decided to call it a day. Perhaps if I had chosen a simpler (non-online-store) website with a homepage, an about page, and a contact page, then maybe the builder could’ve pulled it off.
For an online store, though, I’m certain I could have finished this without all the speed bumps if I had used Bluehost’s standard hosting setup, which I consider to be good. If you want to build a WordPress site with Bluehost, I recommend this approach.
Otherwise, if you want a better AI builder experience and you don’t care about using WordPress, I recommend GoDaddy’s Airo builder. It has self-checking, self-healing code, and will often fix mistakes without debiting your AI credit balance. Of all the website builders I've tested from web hosting companies, I found GoDaddy Airo the most capable and the best value for the money.
Bluehost AI website builder prices and plans
The Bluehost AI website builder starts at $9.99/mo or $15.99/mo, depending on the plan you choose — either Get Online or Sell Online. Both plans renew at $30.99/mo. The main difference, aside from price, is that the Sell Online plan includes an ecommerce suite packed with AI agents, tools, and analytics.

When comparing introductory prices to other AI website builders offered by web hosting companies, the Bluehost AI builder is in line with the market. For example, both DreamHost Remixer AI and GoDaddy Airo AI are priced at $9.99/mo. Meanwhile, SiteGround’s Coderick AI, which includes ecommerce features, costs $16.67/mo. That makes Bluehost’s $15.99/mo asking price for the Sell Online plan marginally cheaper.
However, the story changes completely at renewal. Compared to other AI builders, Bluehost’s rates (roughly) triple on the Get Online plan and (roughly) double on the Sell Online plan. In contrast, DreamHost and SiteGround stay the same, and GoDaddy Airo only rises by $5/mo.
If you do decide to try the Bluehost AI builder, choosing between its two plans is very straightforward: for anything involving selling through your site, choose Sell Online; otherwise, go with Get Online.
Bluehost AI website builder features
The Bluehost AI builder includes several features other builders have, and some unique ones specific to WordPress. The Sell Online plan also includes additional ecommerce and marketing tools that don’t come with the cheaper Get Online plan. Here’s what you can expect:
- Over 20 suggested (editable) prompts for multiple use cases
- One-click access to global style settings
- Two-click access to the WordPress dashboard
- Visual editor
- Yoast SEO Premium
- Full ecommerce suite (Sell Online plan)
- Pre-installed Google Analytics plugin (both plans) and built-in sales analytics (Sell Online plan)
Suggested (editable) prompts for multiple use cases
Many people who are building a website for the first time aren’t sure what to write for their initial prompt. To make things easier and help prevent this gridlock, Bluehost offers a menu of 22 suggested first prompts. It also lets you edit them. That’s precisely what you saw me do earlier in this review when I chose the flower shop design and edited it according to my specifications.
One-click access to global style settings
Adjusting your global style settings is easy inside the Bluehost AI builder. All it takes is clicking a single button. That opens a side menu. From there, you can change your color scheme, font choices, border radius, and decide whether you want your containers to have shadows (and calibrate their strength). I didn’t like the default border radius when Bluehost AI gave me my initial build back, so I used this feature to tweak it. I also added shadows to my containers.
Two-click access to WP admin (i.e., the WordPress dashboard)
One of my biggest pet peeves about the Bluehost AI builder is that sometimes a feature might appear broken inside the builder itself but works fine on the WordPress side (or vice versa). The good news is that Bluehost lets you jump straight into the backend of your WordPress site by clicking the little WordPress logo on the top right, then selecting WP admin from the submenu. That’s exactly how I resolved the Add to Cart pseudo-bug that I mentioned earlier.
Visual editor
The visual editor is a common feature among the best AI website builders. Bluehost offers it as well. It lets you make manual edits, such as changing text copy, adjusting paragraph alignment, adding bold or italic styling to text, and more. And since you make the changes manually, it doesn’t use up your monthly AI edits allocation. I used it several times while building my flower shop website to edit the AI-generated text from the initial build.
Yoast SEO Premium
Most WordPress sites use a free SEO plugin. Yoast SEO is the most popular one, powering over 13 million websites. Bluehost not only pre-installs Yoast on your website, but it gives you the premium version. Compared to the free version, premium Yoast lets you pick up to five focus keywords (versus just one), an internal link suggestion tool, a redirects manager, and AI-assisted text generation for things like SEO titles and meta descriptions.
Full ecommerce suite on the Sell Online plan
If you plan to sell, be it physical products, digital subscriptions, or anything in between, the Sell Online plan will automatically add WooCommerce to your dashboard, along with an entire suite of complementary tools for marketing, newsletter signups, payment acceptance, and more. When I worked on my flower shop website, I found all of these waiting for me inside the WP admin.
Dual analytics for website traffic (both plans) and sales (Sell Online plan)
Both the Sell Online plan and the Get Online plan come with the Google SiteKit plugin pre-installed. Just sign in with your Google account to connect your website and start getting valuable insights about your visitors. With the Sell Online plan, you never have to wonder how your store is performing because it includes a built-in analytics dashboard that tracks sales, orders, and related data.
Bluehost web hosting
When Dianna Gunn tested Bluehost’s standard web hosting for us, she found it a decent choice for beginners building a WordPress site, but with notable drawbacks, such as charging extra for domain privacy after the first year. Overall, though, when you consider all its features, it can be a good choice for small business owners launching their first website.
Web hosting features
Bluehost’s biggest advantage, mentioned several times throughout this review, is its exceptional WordPress setup. The company has gone above and beyond to pre-configure WordPress in a way that helps small business owners avoid the gaps they might otherwise fall through if using a bare-bones WordPress installation.
In addition, its three shared web hosting plans include some of the following features:
- 99.99% uptime guarantee
- Free domain in your first year
- SSL and CDN included for the life of your contract
- WordPress staging site
- AI site creation tools
Web hosting test results
Whenever we review a web host, we run recurring in-house performance tests. The last time we tested Bluehost, it crushed all of our tests. Its overall performance score hit a perfect 100 from three different server locations (Strasbourg, Montreal, Dallas), and it maintained a flawless 100% uptime while we monitored it for four continuous days.
We also ran a stress test, sending 250 users to our website in one minute. Bluehost handled them all with an average response time of 298 milliseconds, which is basically instant.

Security and bandwidth
Bluehost offers various hosting plans, and all include a strong security baseline. That includes continuous malware scanning, proactive and automatic malware removal, and malicious process killing. Higher-level plans add a web application firewall (WAF), brute-force login protection, AI-powered cloud file scanning, database SQL injection protection, and other features.
If those terms are unfamiliar, feel free to look them up, but the takeaway is that Bluehost keeps your site secure, which includes sites built with its AI website builder. In addition, both builder plans throw in a free SSL certificate for as long as you maintain a contract. That ensures your website loads over HTTPS and has that little padlock icon in the browser address bar. It's a non-negotiable for modern websites.
In terms of bandwidth, which is how much data is transferred to and from your account in a given month, Bluehost doesn’t enforce a hard limit on shared hosting accounts. That means you don’t need to worry about extra charges for seasonal traffic spikes or anything else that might cause your site to transfer large volumes of data.
Bluehost customer support
| Support type | Bluehost |
| Live human chat | Yes — 24/7 |
| Not for customer support | |
| Phone | Yes — +1 888-401-4678 |
| Knowledge base | Yes — with AI chatbot that produces answers based on it |
| Online courses | Yes — free for customers |
Bluehost combines self-service resources with direct help from its support team for a multi-front assistance strategy. On the self-service side, there is a standard knowledge base and an AI chat that pulls information from it to answer questions. In addition, Bluehost has an "Academy" where you’ll find a range of free online courses covering topics like SEO for beginners and how to use the WordPress block editor.
On the support front, Bluehost provides 24/7 help via phone and live chat. I’ve interacted with the live chat team countless times over the years, including while testing this Bluehost AI website builder. The staff is always helpful. Sometimes they make small mistakes, but they own up to them when they happen, and they stay with you until your issue is resolved.
Bluehost AI website builder user reviews
- Trustpilot rating: 4.5 / 5
- G2 rating: 3.4 / 5
- Capterra rating: 3.6 / 5
The Bluehost user rating scores above range from very good to excellent. On the surface, that can feel reassuring, but there’s an important caveat: they are for Bluehost as a whole. No review site offers isolated ratings for the AI website builder. When I used the sites’ search feature to find mentions of "AI website builder," I found very few results. I found one recent mention, and it was negative. The user mirrored my frustration, noting that the builder repeatedly tries to fix the same problem with no resolution.
Top alternatives
If Bluehost’s AI Website Builder isn’t quite the right fit but you still want an AI-powered website builder, try GoDaddy’s Airo AI builder. It’s arguably the strongest alternative and one of the best AI website builders I’ve personally tested.
For simpler websites, DreamHost’s Remixer is another option. It’s priced the same as Bluehost, but unlike Bluehost, it doesn’t raise the price at renewal, making it cheaper long term. Plus, the free trial period is ten times longer (30 days versus Bluehost’s three).
Bottom line: Is Bluehost AI website builder good?
The Bluehost AI website builder is among the weakest AI builders I’ve personally tested. Unfortunately, as noble as Bluehost’s ambition was in building it, it just doesn’t work very well. Whether that’s because of Bluehost’s engineers or because fusing an AI builder with WordPress is simply unworkable, I can’t say.
What I can speak to, though, as someone who’s been building with WordPress for over a decade and who has professionally tested many AI builders, is that the Bluehost AI builder doesn’t make it easier or faster to build a WordPress site. The possible exception (which I didn’t try) might be if you need something simple like a one-page sales letter or a basic website with some photographs and surrounding copy. But anything involving user flows or a store will leave you pulling your hair out.
For what it’s worth, I think Bluehost should decouple the AI builder from WordPress, offer it as a standalone tool that vibe codes websites, and keep its great WordPress setup for beginners who want to use WordPress. Otherwise, if the company prefers to double down on this fusion experiment, it should invest in heavy internal testing before the next release because the current version isn't it.
FAQs
Does Bluehost have an AI website builder?
Yes, Bluehost has two AI website builders, both built on WordPress. The first is its AI Website Builder plan. It offers a vibe coding experience where you write prompts and the tool builds based on your instructions. The second version is unlocked through Bluehost’s web hosting plans, which let you access WordPress through the control panel. From there, you can use Bluehost’s other AI builder. That one functions more like an AI-powered launcher with AI assistance inside the WordPress block editor. Learn more in our Bluehost review.
Is the Bluehost AI website builder free?
The Bluehost AI website builder is not free, but it offers a three-day free trial that includes an initial site build, along with five AI edits. After that, if you wish to continue, it costs $9.99/mo on a one- or two-year contract (your choice). A month-to-month plan is also available for $15.99/mo. These plans support one website with 20 GB of storage and 20 recurring AI edits per month, though the first month includes a bonus 10, for a total of 30.
Is the Bluehost AI website builder worth it?
If you plan to build a very simple website, it can be worth it. Since it builds you a WordPress site, it doesn’t leave you trapped (as many proprietary AI builders do). It includes 20 GB of storage, a free CDN, and a free SSL, giving you less to think about when launching your website. However, if you need to build an online store, the tool gets clunky fast. For more complex websites, I’d recommend an alternative WordPress builder.
Is Bluehost or Wix better for building a website?
They are both good, but they have nuances that make them better for different goals. The main difference is that Bluehost is a web hosting company that offers numerous ways to build a website, while Wix is an all-in-one website builder that also includes hosting. In short, Bluehost gives you options, whereas Wix gives you Wix. Also, because Wix is a proprietary (closed) system, you cannot export your site outside of it. In contrast, most Bluehost customers use WordPress to build a site, which you can transfer at any time.
