After thoroughly testing Hosting.com’s unmanaged WordPress hosting plan, what we’re most impressed by is how quickly you can build a customized website with the built-in AI site builder. We started by accessing our preinstalled WordPress site from the main control panel:

As soon as a new browser tab opened, we were met with a prompt to describe our website and choose a tone. For our testing, we described the website as a small plumbing business, and we selected the “persuasive” tone.
We then answered a few setup questions, and within 10 minutes, we received 18 homepage options:

After choosing one and specifying the additional pages we wanted our site to have, the AI site builder generated an attractive website with relevant images and text:

As you can see, it’s very easy to build a website with the Hosting.com AI site builder.
It’s important to note, though, that backend management was nowhere near as beginner-friendly as the WordPress setup. That’s mainly because there are two separate control panels to navigate: the native Hosting.com control panel, and an external one called Enhance. It’s not a major drawback, but it does require some clicking around to find features like email and force HTTPS.
When compared to other hosting providers we’ve used, Hosting.com has one of the fastest WordPress setup processes we’ve seen. Although the AI site builder isn’t perfect and tends to overgenerate content, it takes a lot less time to delete extra sections than to build new sections from scratch.
On the flip side, the dual control panel backend is less user-friendly than Hostinger’s equivalent or Namecheap’s EasyWP, but the tradeoff is that you get more features and greater control.

The huge advantage you get with Hosting.com’s unmanaged WordPress plans is that — unlike competitors that charge extra for features that are more or less essential — Hosting.com gives you everything, regardless of which plan you choose.
Some hosts might be cheaper when looking solely at a plan’s price, but as soon as you need a feature like email accounts, they ask for more money. Because of this, these seemingly cheaper plans end up actually being more expensive.
The only feature Hosting.com doesn’t include is a CDN, but it does support Cloudflare integration, which provides an easy way to get a free CDN. Alternatively, you can sign up for managed WordPress hosting instead. Overall, when measuring the cost of Hosting.com’s plans against their comprehensive features, they’re a true bargain.
As for which plan is the best, it really comes down to your use of resources. Since the plans support only a single site, and all of the non-resource features are bundled into every plan, it makes your decision fairly simple. Just choose a plan based on your storage, computing, and email needs. New sites will do fine with the Starter plan unless you expect heavy initial traffic.

The real standout features, though, are the AI site builder and AI chatbot assistant inside WordPress itself. The site builder was able to generate a full website with multiple pages, thematically relevant images, and placeholder sections for us in only a few minutes.

Website performance is a catch-all term that covers a range of variables. Most often, it refers to uptime and loading speed metrics, but it can also include how a website responds under heavy visitor traffic. We tested all three factors, and overall, Hosting.com performed well.
To see how quickly our website would load, we ran a speed test using Dotcom-Tools from three different locations: Dallas, Montreal, and Strasbourg.
The average performance score across the three locations was in the high 90s (out of 100). Additionally, the average First Contentful Paint (FCP, how quickly the first element on a web page loads) score was under a second, and the average Last Contentful Paint (LCP, how quickly the largest element on a web page loads) was a hair above 1 second.

When manually testing the homepage (the same page we ran the speed test on) and the other site pages, everything loaded very smoothly. We clicked on each page using the navigation menu and then scrolled to the bottom at a natural pace, and there was no noticeable lag.

For uptime, we used the UptimeRobot tool and set it up so that it would check our test site every minute. After 8 days of testing, the site scored 99.989% uptime.

A stress test simulates how a website responds under load. We used a well-known tool called Loader.io and sent 250 visitors to our site in 1 minute. This is far more than a typical new website would receive, and Hosting.com handled it like a champ and recorded 0 errors. Just as impressive was the incredibly low maximum response time of 745 ms, which is significantly lower than the results we’ve seen for competitors like Namecheap and Flywheel.

We reached out to Hosting.com’s support team twice via support tickets. The first ticket was responded to within 3 hours, and the second within an hour. Opening tickets is very straightforward through the control panel, but you can also reach out 24/7 by phone and live chat, and we felt the provider delivered excellent customer support.
The only drawback is the knowledge base, which hasn’t been updated yet to reflect the recent addition of the Enhance control panel to hosting plans.

Hosting.com has a very positive online reputation on review sites like TrustPilot and G2, where it enjoys ratings of 4.7/5 and 4.4/5, respectively.
The feedback on Reddit is less positive, though. There are a handful of complaints about the quality of service falling after the company’s change of ownership and the brand name change from A2 Hosting to Hosting.com, but this does not match our testing experience, which we found to be very positive.

One of Hosting.com’s big selling points is that it gives you almost every feature you might want or need when starting a website. Considering the cost of web hosting, it’s generally cheaper to choose a Hosting.com plan than a lower-priced alternative that charges extra for features that Hosting.com includes for free.
But what if you don’t want everything? For simpler needs, these other web hosts may be a better fit:

Bluehost is a good alternative if you like the idea of using an AI site builder to create your site, but you prefer to use cPanel for your backend management. The promotional pricing is more expensive than Hosting.com, and certain features are paywalled behind higher-tier plans, but it’s a great choice for die-hard cPanel fans.

DreamHost’s unmanaged WordPress plans will give you many of the same features as Hosting.com’s equivalents. Getting started is easier, though, because DreamHost’s WordPress experts will build you a custom site. Drawbacks include the lack of staging sites, CDN, and phone support, and the fact that email is free for only 3 months. Its high-performance plans bridge the gap, but they’re far more expensive.

Hosting.com is exceptional. The unmanaged WordPress Starter plan we tested had very few faults, other than dealing with the double control panel, which was cumbersome, and the lack of content in the knowledge base related to the Enhance control panel (though this is to be expected given the relatively new status of the feature).
If you can get past these points and appreciate the breadth of features hidden in the nooks and crannies of the two dashboards, then you’ll love Hosting.com.
On the positive side, there’s a whole waterfall of features, as we’ve covered in our Hosting.com review, that completely drown out the relatively minor negatives, including a free domain for the first year, 99.9% guaranteed uptime, comprehensive security on all plans, automatic backups, AI site builder tools, and email accounts.
Hosting.com offers one of the safest and most secure web hosting packages on the market, and unlike many competitors, it doesn’t paywall security features. Even the cheapest, most basic plan comes with an SSL certificate, web application firewall, malware scanner, brute force protection, DDoS mitigation, encrypted SFTP access, and 2FA for control panel access.
That said, when the company operated as A2 Hosting, under previous ownership, it did have notable security incidents in 2019 and 2023.[1][2]
Hosting.com, previously known as A2 Hosting, is owned by World Host Group. It was acquired by the company in 2025, when it changed its name.[3] Before that, it was an independent company and was owned by its founder, Bryan Muthig, who launched it in 2001.
Cancelling a Hosting.com hosting plan is very easy and can be done in five clicks. First, log in to the Hosting.com control panel and click Products & Services on the left-side panel, and then click Hosting & Servers. Next, select the hosting plan you want to cancel, and click the Manage button. On the left-side panel, click on the Billing tab, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click the Cancellation request button to process your cancellation.
