You can’t stay up around the clock to protect your information, but a data removal service can. In this service comparison, DeleteMe wins

Privacy Bee has 24/7 monitoring to search the internet for you, but it has only one plan, and you must pay for the service. DeleteMe also provides continuous data removal but has additional privacy tools, like phone, email, and card masking. It doesn’t have a free version, either. Unlike Privacy Bee, though, DeleteMe has different pricing tiers to fit more budgets.

We’ll dive into the details to help you choose the best data removal services for your budget and needs.

How we test and rate data removal services

To review data removal services, we sign up for the service anywhere from a week to a month in advance. This allows it time to gather our data, scrub it from the data broker and people search sites, and send us reports on its process.

With so many data broker websites, you’ll want to make sure the one you choose sends requests to a lot of them, as well as follows up and searches for more.

Once we've spent some time with the service, we calculate our editorial rating by taking into account key features, prices, security measures, and other criteria.

To learn more about how we test, check out our full data removal testing methodology here.

DeleteMe plans

DeleteMe has three plans to choose from, and if you want to save more money, you can opt for a 2-year subscription. There’s no free trial or actual money-back guarantee, but you can get a full refund if you request it before your first privacy report arrives. That could be less than a week, though.

  • 1 Person, 1 Year: This individual plan option covers one user and includes a data broker opt-out and extra privacy tools. It does not include marketing list removal or real-time alerts.
  • 1 Person, 2 Years: This individual plan offers all the same benefits as the annual plan, just with biennial billing.
  • 2 People, 2 Years: DeleteMe’s best value plan offers all the same features as the individual plan, but it covers two users for 2 years.

Privacy Bee plans

Privacy Bee has only one plan, but the account holder can add family members at no additional cost. However, there’s no free trial or money-back guarantee available. For the price, subscribers receive Privacy Bee’s ongoing data removal services that continually monitor the internet and the dark web for your sensitive data.

  • Annual Plan: This plan doesn’t include email privacy, but you’ll receive 24/7 monitoring as well as removal from data brokers, people search sites, and marketing lists. Plus, a browser extension helps you request data removal from sites in real time, and email scanners help reduce the junk mail you get.

Winner: DeleteMe is the winner here. Privacy Bee doesn’t give any room for options with the price. You either take it, or leave it, and many users may decide to leave it.

Privacy Bee offers marketing list removal, whereas DeleteMe doesn’t. DeleteMe rechecks your data every three months, but Privacy Bee promises continuous monitoring. If you want to remove your data from a data broker between periods, you’ll need to submit a custom removal request from your dashboard.

Privacy Bee updates its dashboard continuously with updated monitoring. Still, you’ll mostly get charts that show your privacy risk, not tons of information regarding your data, which you might have expected. DeleteMe does have the edge when it comes to email privacy, as it includes email, phone, and card masking, which Privacy Bee doesn’t offer. You also have coverage for 750+ data brokers with DeleteMe and only 440+ with Privacy Bee.

Additional features

To provide a clear picture of what data removal services should offer, here we’ll include any additional features not covered above. These may give you a proactive way to secure your data with extra services.

  • Email, phone, and card masking: This service creates different email addresses and phone numbers to keep your actual information private. Knowing your data isn’t floating around the internet makes it easier to contact businesses. DeleteMe has this option, but Privacy Bee doesn’t.
  • Industry opt-outs: Privacy Bee includes these options so you can choose not to have your data shared with typical marketing businesses. You can also choose to be removed from credit screening offers. From this section on the dashboard, you can opt out of whitelisting.
  • Free scan: DeleteMe and Privacy Bee both have the free scan feature to search online for your data. If you see your information on the internet, you can pay for a subscription to get your data removed.

The Industry Opt-out feature allows you to opt out of having your information shared with common marketing companies, such as Publishers Clearing House.

Winner: DeleteMe wins because it scans 750+ data broker sites and includes privacy tools like email, phone, and card masking. These options help to make your data safer, and it also has access to more data brokers than Privacy Bee.

Which data removal service is more secure?

Security is a concern with any software. You never want to give out your private information unless you’ve reviewed the company’s privacy policy and feel your data is safe. You want to know that the data is encrypted and if measures like two-factor authentication are available.

Some data collection is reasonable, as the program will need certain information to check for your data on the internet. You’ll also need to enter payment information and other account information.

One of the issues we noticed with Privacy Bee is there is no clear form of encryption. When looking for the security measures used, Privacy Bee seems rather vague. The documentation mentions safety being a priority and that it forces SSL across the site to increase security, but it doesn’t mention the specific encryption used for the databases. It does make it known that your information is never sold. Still, not knowing what type of encryption Privacy Bee uses made us concerned about a potential data breach.

Plus, Privacy Bee doesn’t offer an additional security layer with two-factor or multifactor authentication, whereas DeleteMe offers strong encryption and 2FA.

Winner: DeleteMe is the easy winner. Privacy Bee not specifying the encryption included makes us hesitant under the best circumstances.

Privacy Bee has many features to help secure your data, but you must pay for an annual subscription to access them. Signing up for the free privacy screening shows only your overall risk, not the actual brokers who have your information. Since there is only one plan, that means forking out an annual subscription with no money-back guarantee.

Privacy Bee also breaks out exposed personal information into categories like passwords, usernames, addresses, and emails.

The interface is easy to navigate, and you’ll have multiple reports showing your exposure, risk assessment, search cleanup, industry opt-out, and more. Unfortunately, nothing on the dashboard lets you know if your data was removed from the various websites. You’d need to search for your information on a website. For instance, you could check to see if it removed your data from LexisNexis or another site that had your details.

DeleteMe was also easy to use, and setup was a breeze. You create an account and let the data removal begin. The dashboard shows your latest report and information regarding your subscription. The most pertinent details are on the Reports and Data Sheet tabs.

Neither of these data removal services has 24/7 customer support. There are various contact methods when assistance is needed, but you may wait a bit for a response.

Winner: DeleteMe. Both products have interfaces that are easy to use, but DeleteMe offers more robust customer support options like live chat, phone, and email.
