LogMeOnce is a pioneer in the password management space as it utilizes passwordless authentication as an option to log in. In this LogMeOnce review, we discuss the pros and cons of the passwordless password manager and help you decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Coming up with strong unique passwords is one of the best ways to protect yourself against hackers, but remembering those passwords can be challenging. Enter the password manager. A password manager secures your login info for virtually any site or account that requires a login and password.

LogMeOnce is the first passwordless password manager, relying on other verification forms for login. Instead of a password, you can log in by snapping a selfie, scanning a QR code, scanning your fingerprint, through facial recognition, or entering a PIN. Unlike some password managers that offer standard auto-fill and password management, LogMeOnce goes above and beyond with enhanced security features and an impressive range of advanced capabilities.

Four plans are available from LogMeOnce, ranging from free to professional, ultimate, and family plans. All plans feature encrypted file storage, autofill, unlimited passwords, a password generator, audit and activity reports, beneficiary access, and two-factor and/or multi-factor authentication.

Unlimited passwords

Whether you’re visiting 10 consistent websites or frequenting thousands of sites all with different passwords, LogMeOnce lets you store unlimited passwords, meaning you can store as many passwords as you need. This is true even for the free plan.

All of these passwords are also synced across as many devices as you need so you always have access to your login info.

We also like that LogMeOnce lets you choose where to save your passwords: on your device, in the cloud, on a USB, or using Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Security features

Used as it’s designed, LogMeOnce stores some of your most sensitive information, so it’s no surprise the company takes security seriously and offers a wide array of features to mitigate hacking. In the Secure Notes section, you can store information like Social Security numbers, bank account info, and other information.

Password sharing

In today’s digital age, it isn’t uncommon for a need to share passwords with friends, family, or employees. A password manager is the safest way to share passwords. LogMeOnce offers two ways to share passwords: with family sharing and by sharing passwords directly through the vault.

Family sharing can only be accessed with the Family plan, while sharing passwords from the vault can be done with any plan.

Two-factor authentication

Even with the most basic plans, LogMeOnce offers a minimum of two-factor authentication as a layer of protection. Two-factor authentication is a two-layer approach to account security. The first layer is something you know, like a memorized password. Once that information is provided, a second layer of credentials is sent to you to complete the login.

After you log in with your first password, a second password is sent to you by any option you choose: a selfie, SMS notification, voice call, email, Google Authenticator, USB token, or X.509 certificate.

Password generator

Creating a strong password is one of the first lines of defense to staying safe online. A 12-character-minimum password using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, symbols, and randomness is a good starting point for a secure password.

Autofill

LogMeOnce’s form filler feature lets you quickly fill out any form with data stored in your LogMeOnce account, including name, address, credit card information, and more. Once you’re on the website with a form you want to fill out, an orange icon appears in the field bar, indicating the field is detected by Autofill. You can fill out information quickly and easily with a couple of quick clicks. 

Password strength report

LogMeOnce’s password manager dashboard contains a trove of information, including any passwords to apps or sites, documents, photos, notes, and wallet information. It shows your overall strength and whether any passwords were leaked in data breaches.

Digital legacy

In the event of an emergency or death, LogMeOnce offers a beneficiary feature, granting access to trusted individuals. You can assign a beneficiary or assign access to multiple people. The assignee can log in, support, and maintain your digital information. You determine when they get access and can cancel access at any time.

Bonus features

In addition to the password manager perks and amenities, LogMeOnce offers bonus features, like dark web monitoring and encrypted cloud storage add-ons.

LogMeOnce plays offense on the dark web, scanning for stolen account information and passwords and sending notifications if your information is exposed or found on the dark web. Encrypted cloud storage allows you to encrypt files automatically with your password. Both options are available for an additional monthly cost.

• Anti-theft features: Trace your phone, notebook, or computer and wipe your device (delete all data if you know it’s stolen), lock it by forcing a password, force your device to ring at max volume, or remotely log out and instantly protect your data. With this feature, you can also ping a GPS location, plot your device’s location on a map, or display a message to help the finder get the device back into your hands.
• Kill-Pill: This anti-theft feature instantly wipes all LogMeOnce data from a reported lost or stolen device.
• Account freeze: Traveling for a long period of time or using public Wi-Fi? No problem. This anti-theft feature allows you to freeze accounts for as long as necessary, from any device.
• Password SHOCK: Send intruders a message with this anti-theft feature that automatically sends a warning if someone tries to hack your LogMeOnce account.

Our LogMeOnce experience

For our testing purposes, we tested a free trial of the LogMeOnce Ultimate plan. Setting up a LogMeOnce account was seamless and straightforward. We input our information and our account was created quickly, with immediate feedback on our password strength. We easily installed the LogMeOnce extension on our Chrome browser. The browser extension was helpful, automatically popping up any time we visited a website with the intent of logging in.

However, that’s about where the ease of use stopped. Navigating the main dashboard was clunky and not intuitive or user-friendly. The site offered a quick tutorial consisting of labels and arrows and offered a link to a live Zoom training, but the link expired in March 2023.

The password generator was helpful and provided passwords that would take hackers about “2 billion years” to hack.

Overall, our interface experience left a lot to be desired. A lot of information is crammed into one dashboard without clear navigation.

LogMeOnce privacy policy

LogMeOnce protects your data, but it does collect personal identifying information. According to the Use of Information section of its privacy policy, LogMeOnce claims to "never rent, sell, or provide your personal information to any third parties unless you request and agree to it."

Additionally, LogMeOnce touts zero-knowledge technology, meaning it doesn’t know your encryption key or actual passwords. You’re the only one with absolute knowledge of your encryption key or passwords, and only you can decrypt your account.

A password manager potentially contains some of your most sensitive information: Social Security numbers, bank account information, and passwords to websites with highly valuable information. In addition to using a trustworthy password manager, updating your privacy settings on any website and browsers you use is one of the quickest ways to enhance your online safety.

LogMeOnce third-party audits

Third-party audits aren’t perfect, but they offer a snapshot of a company’s trust and transparency and help validate any claims the password manager makes. At publication, LogMeOnce hasn’t published any third-party audit results.

Is LogMeOnce safe to use?

LogMeOnce is generally safe to use due to its industry-standard encryption. LogMeOnce has never been hacked, nor has it been involved in any data breaches.

LogMeOnce customer service

When we signed up for our account, we received an email from a customer service representative from LogMeOnce welcoming us to the service and directing us where to go for more information. The email included links to the knowledge base, a help page with common problems, a FAQ guide, and informative articles.

The email also included a link to submit an email request for help. Additionally, the LogMeOnce YouTube channel, stocked with video demos and tutorials, was a valuable way to walk users through common pain points.

The main dashboard offers a live Zoom training, but the link was expired when we checked it. LogMeOnce boasts Priority Email and Chat customer service options in some of its premium plans. We used the chat feature, which seemed to be an AI chatbot, and we received a notice saying a ticket had been created and someone would be with us soon.

We submitted an email request for help, but as of publication, we hadn’t received a response through email or chat.

LogMeOnce compatibility

One of the significant perks of LogMeOnce is streamlined compatibility among devices. The password manager offers an app compatible with both Android and iOS devices. A desktop app is currently unavailable, but we tested using the dashboard on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer without issue. LogMeOnce supports Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

How much does LogMeOnce cost?

LogMeOnce offers several cost tiers, ranging from a free account to a family plan. The free plan grants unlimited saved passwords synced across unlimited devices and added features like secure notes, one GB of encrypted storage, a password generator, and more. As the monthly price increases, so do the features.

LogMeOnce plan comparison

Compared to other password managers, LogMeOnce is a good mid-range password manager. The ability to log in without a master password is appealing, and the novelty of logging in with a selfie is certainly innovative technology.

Having a password manager is an important step in improving your cybersecurity, and LogMeOnce does offer that capability. It offers many security features that help you feel secure, but for the average customer, many of the premium features might go unused. Additionally, some helpful add-on items like dark web monitoring and identity protection are available, but at an extra cost on top of the monthly plan cost.

Having a password manager is a helpful step in securing your online identity. There are free versions of password managers available as Chrome extensions like Google Password Manager, but Google password manager isn’t safe or secure. LogMeOnce FAQs

Bottom line: Is LogMeOnce good?

LogMeOnce touts 57 features in addition to managing passwords, but for a beginner user those additional features are just not needed or likely to be properly utilized. In addition to the plethora of features, the interface isn’t particularly user-friendly; it took us quite a bit of fiddling around on the website to get where we wanted to go.

The monthly cost of LogMeOnce isn’t too steep, which, for businesses or people looking for a feature-rich password manager, makes it a great option to consider. But for the average consumer, LogMeOnce may not be the best option as a day-to-day password manager.
