Keeper is a super secure password manager, but NordPass, RoboForm1Password, and Bitwarden may be better alternatives, depending on your needs.

NordPass includes advanced security features — more so than even Keeper — and comes from Nord Security, a leading name in digital security and privacy. RoboForm comes with very similar features but for a much lower price point. 1Password allows you to create a robust library of stored records, securing more data than just login credentials or your standard PII. And Bitwarden has the most extensive support for operating systems and browser extensions.

The best password managers not only store information securely but are also easy to use. In this review, we break down the pros and cons of these four tested favorites to help you decide which password management solution is right for you.

How we test and rate password managers

Our team has conducted hands-on testing on 30+ password managers. We install each product on our own devices and test it across both mobile and desktop, evaluating how well it handles saving, filling, and syncing credentials across real-world situations.

We evaluate each product across five areas:

  • Editor's score (15%): We factor in our own assessment of the user experience, onboarding, and anything else not captured by the other criteria.
  • Value (15%): We compare the lowest and highest plan prices and free trial length, assess how many users a subscription can cover, and check whether a free version is available.
  • Features (35%): We test the core functionality every password manager needs: autofill, cross-device sync, and password generation. We also evaluate sharing tools, import support, digital legacy options, password strength reporting, and passkey support.
  • Compatibility (10%): We assess availability across desktop apps, mobile apps, and browser extensions.
  • Trustworthiness (25%): We review each product's Trustpilot rating and assess overall trustworthiness, including encryption standards, audit history, and whether the privacy policy confirms user data is never sold.

The ability to import your existing passwords is a crucial time-saver when choosing a premium password manager. No one wants to input dozens of online credentials manually, so our top-tested picks include an automatic import feature.

What we liked

If security is a concern, NordPass is a natural choice due to its features like email masking and zero-trust technology. NordPass chose xChaCha20 as its encryption standard to avoid the potential pitfalls AES encryption models may pose in the future.

Keeper and NordPass are very similar; both offer two-factor authentication (2FA) and biometric login capabilities for additional security. Face ID and fingerprint scanners are unique to you and help keep your account secure.

NordPass has an easy-to-follow walkthrough to get you started when you first set up your account.

We also like that NordPass can be bundled with other security features like NordVPN and NordLocker for additional storage and online anonymity. Even if you don’t want NordLocker, you can still attach up to 3GB of files to an existing item in your NordPass storage.

NordPass options for import (Browsers, password managers, and somewhere else)

What we didn’t like

One major difference between Keeper and NordPass is that Keeper has more customization options than its competitors. It’s not a deal breaker, but the ability to customize your password manager leaves you with less wasted space and items you may not use.

Star rating summary

NordPass is our top password manager recommendation with a near-perfect star rating of 4.9. It's easy to use, affordable, and offers all the features you need for simple and secure password management.

NordPass was docked only in the trust category because of its 4.0 Trustpilot score.

  • No history of data leaks or being hacked, backed by industry-leading encryption

What we liked

RoboForm is an excellent lower-cost alternative to Keeper, providing much of the same functionality at a fraction of the price. While Keeper’s Personal plan costs $3.58/mo, RoboForm’s starts at just $0.99/mo, offering strong value for individuals or families on a budget.

Security remains top-notch, with AES-256-bit encryption, 2FA, and biometric authentication available across devices. The 2025 independent security audit further confirmed that RoboForm quickly patches vulnerabilities, giving it a proven security record similar to Keeper’s.

We found RoboForm’s autofill engine and cross-browser extensions reliable in daily use, working seamlessly on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. It also includes secure password sharing, digital legacy access, and local vault storage, all of which align closely with Keeper’s premium-tier capabilities.

In our testing, RoboForm’s import tools made switching from Keeper effortless, transferring saved logins and notes in seconds.

What we didn’t like

RoboForm’s interface isn’t as sleek or modern as Keeper’s, and the mobile app feels basic by comparison. It also lacks Keeper’s integrated dark web monitoring. But if your priority is dependable password management without premium pricing, RoboForm is one of the best Keeper alternatives available.

Star rating summary

RoboForm has a high star rating of 4.9 due to its comprehensive features, economical pricing, and extensive compatibility across operating systems and browser extensions.

RoboForm received a lower score in the value category because the free plan only covers one device and a lower score in the trust category due to its ratings on Trustpilot.

Password Manager
1Password

  • Unique features, like Travel Mode and Watchtower to keep your data safe

What we liked

Users who want an online vault for more than just passwords will love what 1Password offers. In addition to strong passwords and notes, 1Password users can store medical files, credit card info, membership IDs, outdoor licenses, and much more.

1Password is very user-friendly. Keeper tends to have a security-minded look, while 1Password is more approachable and visually aesthetic. Since there’s so much information you can store in 1Password, it’s nice to have it organized into a clean, easy-to-find library of data and documents.

1Password list of items you can save in your vault

You’ll also get extra features like Travel Mode and Watchtower. Travel Mode removes your vaults from your device when you’re traveling to protect against hacking if your device is stolen. Watchtower provides dark web monitoring, which checks for leaked data online and gives you tips on how to secure your information.

1Password Watchtower feature report

What we didn’t like

With how user-friendly 1Password is, we can’t say the same about its pricing structure. There’s no free version, but you can test it for 14 days. After that, you’ll have to purchase a yearly subscription, and there’s no refund option if you don’t like it. Better make that free 2-week trial count.

Star rating summary

1Password has a near-perfect star rating of 4.9 because of its seamless user experience, extensive suite of password manager features, and availability of apps across devices.

1Password's major mark-down was in the value category because of its expensive starting price and lack of a free trial.

Best Password Manager For Compatibility
Password Manager
Bitwarden
  • Open-source software and zero-knowledge encryption means only you can see your data
  • Completely compatible across operating systems, including Linux
  • Share passwords and files securely with built-in link expirations and open limits

What we liked

Bitwarden offers broad compatibility, so you can use this software on most, if not all, of your devices. Along with the standard extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, Bitwarden is also available on TorBrowser, DuckDuckGo, Vivaldi, and more.

Budget-minded users will be pleased that they can download and use Bitwarden for free on an unlimited number of devices and store an unlimited amount of passwords. In fact, all of Bitwarden’s core functions are available with its free plan.

Keeper’s free plan allows you to use it on one device and store up to 10 passwords before urging you to upgrade to its full plan. Bitwarden’s free plan, on the other hand, includes unlimited devices and passwords as well as all its core functions. If you aren’t looking for much beyond password management and storage, Bitwarden is the most budget-friendly choice.

Like Keeper, Bitwarden also has excellent security and is recommended by industry experts. In addition to its security and unlimited access, you also get features like password sharing, a random password generator, data breach reports, and more as part of the free core functions of Bitwarden.

What we didn’t like

You can’t just randomly share a password stored in your Bitwarden vault. You’ll need to create an “organization” first to share it. It’s a weird extra step, and we’re not sure why it’s necessary. While this isn’t a deal breaker, it was still something we found tiresome.

Star rating summary

Bitwarden has a high star rating of 4.8 because of its budget-friendly plans, comprehensive autofill and security features, and inclusive compatibility across devices.

Bitwarden received a lower score in the experience category because we found its password sharing process to be complicated.

FAQs

What is similar to Keeper password manager?

NordPass is very similar to Keeper, both in terms of security and features. NordPass uses xChaCha20 encryption, which may prove superior to Keeper’s AES-256-bit encryption down the road, as the latter is already showing chances of being breakable in the future.

Is there a free version of Keeper?

Yes, Keeper offers a very limited free version of its software. You can install it on one device and save up to 10 passwords before being prompted to upgrade. Bitwarden is a far more robust free product with unlimited devices and unlimited password storage.

Is Keeper BreachWatch free?

No, BreachWatch isn’t included with your Keeper subscription. You’ll have to purchase it as a premium add-on.

Is Keeper a good password manager?

Yes, Keeper is a good password manager, but it has limitations. It’s secure, offers plenty of features with its paid subscription, and can be installed on a variety of devices. However, it limits its free version and asks you to pay for premium features like BreachWatch, which you may not find with competitors.

How much does Keeper cost per month?

Keeper’s monthly cost ranges from $3.58-$7.67/mo depending on your chosen plan. People looking for a free password manager may want to check out Bitwarden instead, as it doesn’t limit the devices and number of passwords you can access with its free plan.

What is the difference between Keeper and LastPass?

Keeper and LastPass have many similar features, like a password generator, as well as similar restrictions, like only one device allowed on the free plans. Both are better options than Google’s password manager, but Keeper hasn’t experienced a data breach, while LastPass has experienced several.
