As the newest addition to the Nord Security suite, NordProtect provides a largely pleasant experience despite missing some crucial features. Online shoppers or people who engage in ecommerce will find NordProtect’s insurance policies especially compelling, but anyone could benefit from this monitoring service.
We had a few hiccups and experienced one caveat: We didn’t love the customer service. Otherwise, NordProtect is another user-friendly, reliable service from Nord, though the identity and credit monitoring features aren't as robust as other top-notch identity theft protection services.
Read below for our full NordProtect review to learn more about its offerings.
- Integrates with other Nord Security apps
- Offers cyberextortion protection and online fraud coverage
- User-friendly interface with easy notification toggles
- Harder to activate than competitors like Aura
- No plans for couples or families

Our experience
Signing up for NordProtect was easy, but once we were in the portal, we had a problem verifying our identity. We reached out to its 24/7 customer support, but after six hours of waiting, we gave up and logged off for the day.
The next morning, we woke up to a middle-of-the-night email from support with unhelpful tips directing us to make sure we weren’t running a VPN or trying to activate on our phone rather than on our computer. Since we’d already tried all these things, we decided to use the Chrome browser instead of Safari. For whatever reason, that workaround resolved the issue.
Once we verified our identity, the credit monitoring section populated instantly. Using NordProtect on both Safari and Chrome browsers was pretty easy, except for verification. The actual functionality, on the other hand, was no issue at all.
We began receiving alerts stating that our email was found on the dark web. But we had one strange alert for an account we’d never signed up for, and there was a phone number connected that we didn’t recognize. NordProtect helped us reach out to the site to get our information removed.
Overall, we thought NordProtect delivered well on all its promises. While there are features missing from its platform that competitors do offer, all the features it advertises perform well. If you’re an individual looking for a way to boost your personal security, this might be a good fit.
How to cancel NordProtect
NordProtect makes cancellation as easy as clicking a few buttons. All we had to do was go to Settings, scroll down, and click the Delete account button.
We received a notification warning us about cancelling, but our account was gone once we clicked the Continue button. Deleting NordProtect was easier than setting it up.
Who is NordProtect best for?
- Recommended for individuals who do a lot of ecommerce
We were interested in the cyberextortion protection and online fraud coverage, which could help you recover funds from fraudulent purchases. NordProtect is only for individuals, so a single person, especially one who shops online often, would benefit from these extra monetary protections both on purchases and for victims of extortion, like phishing scams. We definitely don’t see that very often!
NordProtect prices and subscriptions
NordProtect provides identity theft protection for individuals between $4.99-$31.99/mo. You can also subscribe monthly, annually, or every two years. The two-year deal is much better and averages out to a third of what you’d pay if you chose the monthly option.
Below, we compare the three plan tiers and their price per subscription term.
| Plan | 1-month cost | 1-year cost | 2-year cost |
| Silver | $15.99/mo | $6.99/mo | $4.99/mo |
| Gold | $23.99/mo | $9.49/mo | $7.49/mo |
| Platinum | $31.99/mo | $11.99/mo | $9.99/mo |
Plan comparison
There are now three NordProtect plans available: Silver, Gold, and Platinum:
- The Silver plan includes credit monitoring by TransUnion, dark web monitoring, and identity theft insurance, including cyberextortion protection and online fraud coverage.
- The Gold plan includes everything in the Silver plan, plus cyber attack coverage, credit lock, and NordVPN.
- The Platinum plan includes everything in the Gold plan, plus malware breach alerts, more identity monitoring categories, and Incogni's data removal services.
If you’re part of a couple or want to cover your family, there are no plans for multiple people. Aura and LifeLock are better alternatives for households with multiple people.

NordProtect features
NordProtect isn’t as robust as its competitors. The bulk of its protection features are focused on dark web scans and data breaches.
You’ll also receive credit monitoring with TransUnion on all plans and all three credit bureaus on the Platinum plan. The alerts you receive are detailed, and there are three types of financial compensation for scams and fraud.
NordProtect integrates with other Nord Security services like NordVPN and NordPass, which makes it easy to manage from one dashboard.
What does NordProtect protect against?
ID theft protection works by monitoring your credit and offering financial reimbursements for identity theft, cyberextortion, and online fraud. NordProtect scans the dark web for data breaches of your email and other information.
While NordProtect isn’t as extensive as other services, the identity theft insurance is comparable to other identity protection programs.
Identity monitoring
NordProtect doesn’t offer extensive identity protection the way other identity theft protection services do, but it does offer plenty of alerts regarding login credentials.
NordProtect has added additional monitoring, but these are exclusive to the Platinum tier. With financial account monitoring, you can keep track of your bank, credit card, and investment accounts for suspicious transactions. You'll also receive alerts if payday loans or cash advances are opened in your name.
One alert we got was concerning because we’d never signed up for a site called Cetrix Supplies, but our LinkedIn profile was attached to the account. There was a phone number listed that wasn’t one we recognized (we redacted the last four numbers for privacy), so that made us extra suspicious.
NordProtect helped us reach out to the company to get the issue resolved.
Credit monitoring
NordProtect used to only monitor TransUnion, but now it covers Equifax and Experian too. We liked that there was a list of specific items contributing to our credit score to better see what we could do to improve.
Credit reports and credit scores
With NordProtect, you’ll receive your three-bureau credit reports annually. Your credit dashboard also displays monthly updates of your VantageScore 3.0 from TransUnion.
Different lenders and creditors will pull and report to all three major credit bureaus — TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian — and keeping an eye on at least one of the bureaus can help you catch fraud early.
Identity restoration services
While regular customer support is painfully slow and has few options, the identity restoration service has several contact options. You can fill out a form for one of the individual assets or call a support number to file a claim for identity losses. This was, by far, the more robust option when it came to getting assistance.
Bonus features
The bonus features aren’t exactly traditional, but we appreciate the extra financial support for things like online scams and purchases. NordProtect’s four different types of identity theft insurance aren’t something that competitors usually offer.
In addition to traditional identity theft insurance up to $1 million, NordProtect’s cyberextortion protection covers you for up to $50,000 if you’re the victim of a phishing scam or some other kind of extortion. The online fraud coverage can reimburse you if that too-good-to-be-true Instagram ad turns out to be a complete hoax.
And on the Gold and Platinum tiers, you'll receive cyberattack coverage for up to $10,000. You don’t find these protections often in ID theft protection services, so we were pleasantly surprised.
NordProtect now includes other security products in its higher tiers, those being NordVPN and Incogni.
Does NordProtect keep your data safe?
NordProtect does include language in its privacy policy that it may share your information with marketing partners for marketing services. It didn’t seem to offer much data to third parties, so your information is as safe as it would be with other Nord Security products.
While we couldn’t find any definitive information on the encryption used by NordProtect, we could enable multi-factor authentication. There were various ways to authenticate, but we chose Google Authenticator, which synced seamlessly.
NordProtect compatibility
NordProtect is compatible with all the same operating systems as other Nord products. We accessed it easily using Safari for macOS browser.
It was also available within the NordVPN app for iOS and Android. The operating system apps are rated 4.6 for Android and 4.7 for iOS, so users are consistently pleased with the performance.
NordProtect customer support
We can’t stress enough how disappointed we were in NordProtect’s customer support. We couldn't verify our information for credit monitoring, and after six hours, we still hadn’t received a response to our request for help. We ended up deleting our account and trying again just to see if we could verify ourselves in a different way.
Even though this was not the best experience overall, we don’t expect regular users to have the same sign-up issues as long as you use a personal (and not business) email address.
Support replied to us in the middle of the night, so when we saw the email in the morning, we were excited to get help. The responses were very unhelpful, asking if we had a VPN active when trying to verify.
Eventually, we tried verifying on a Chrome browser rather than Safari and were able to complete the setup. We had to notify support that they may have a bug.
Chrome can be fickle depending on your antivirus and firewall configurations, so all NordProtect users may not encounter the same browser issue.

FAQs
Is NordProtect worth it?
Depending on your needs, NordProtect might be worth it. We think people who engage in ecommerce would benefit from NordProtect’s extra financial protections.
But if you’re an individual looking for affordable, basic protection, then we’d recommend OmniWatch instead. And for ID theft coverage that protects your entire family, LifeLock is a better choice.
Is Nord Security the same as NordVPN?
Nord Security is the parent company of NordVPN, NordPass, NordLocker, NordProtect, and more. If you want to purchase one or all of these services, you can easily manage them from one dashboard.
We’ve tested over 50 VPNs, and NordVPN is easily our top-rated VPN provider.
What is the best identity theft protection?
We think Aura is the best identity theft protection service available. It has plans for individuals, couples, and families that automatically include bundled security software like real-time antivirus protection, a password manager, data removal services, parental controls, and more.
As a full protection suite, it also offers robust monitoring, covering identity, credit, and financial accounts, which is an important part of keeping your identity and assets safe.
Bottom line: Is NordProtect good?
Yes, NordProtect is a good credit monitoring tool that’s especially useful if you’re into ecommerce, online shopping, or just want extra transaction protection online. We hope it adds plans with family coverage for couples and children in the future, as it's limited to individuals only at this time.
If you’re looking to protect your partner or family or want more built-in security features, then you may benefit from checking out some of the best ID theft protection services we’ve tested.
