What we liked

DeleteMe is an easy-to-use data removal tool that’s ideal if you want a few more privacy features than Incogni. It’s a solid middle ground between something like Aura (a full-featured identity theft protection suite) and Incogni (straightforward data removal).

DeleteMe has a wide range of pricing options available. It has among the lowest starting prices for some comprehensive data removal, starting at $6.97/mo. The two-year plan is more affordable than Incogni's starting price.

Plus, DeleteMe has options to cover individuals, couples, and families, so you don't have to buy multiple individual subscriptions for you and your partner or you and your family.

What we didn’t like

DeleteMe advertises covering up to 976 data broker and people search sites. However, its true number is 89–986 data brokers.

Some of these brokers are exclusively custom removal requests, which require more effort on your part. Other brokers listed are exclusively part of DeleteMe's higher-tier plans, which are only available after you sign up for a basic subscription. We're not fans of DeleteMe's deceptive advertising.

Star rating summary

DeleteMe received a high star rating of 4.8 due to its high scores in the experience, value, and customer service categories. DeleteMe offers a clean, user-friendly dashboard, a wide range of data broker coverage, and standard data removal features like custom removals and privacy reports.

DeleteMe was docked points in the value category due to its higher starting price.

What we liked

Aura is primarily an identity theft protection solution, but it also covers 200+ data brokers. Its primary features are identity monitoring, credit monitoring, and identity theft insurance.

Plus, all Aura Data Removal plans include several extra features that make it a one-stop shop for device protection. You'll receive antivirus software, a VPN, safe browsing tools, and a password manager.

What we didn’t like

Aura has its strengths, but it's not the most comprehensive data removal service. Incogni, DeleteMe, and Optery all include custom removals, but this isn't part of Aura's data removal features yet.

We still love everything Aura includes for identity theft protection, but it may become expensive if all you need is a data removal tool.

Star rating summary

Aura Data Removal's 4.7 rating reflects a capable service that bundles data removal into a broader security suite. It includes the same 200+ broker coverage across all three plans, has a clean, intuitive dashboard, and the support team was fast and helpful in our testing.

But Aura Data Removal struggled the most in the features category because it has no custom removal requests, no real-time broker alerts, and no way to buy a data removal service on its own.

  • Data breach monitoring included on every plan, with recommendations on how to protect your data after a breach
  • Family plans cover up to 6 users, more than Incogni, Aura, or DeleteMe offer

What we liked

If you need data removal for more than yourself, then Onerep edges out Incogni on family coverage. Incogni's Family plan covers up to 5 people for $15.99/mo; Onerep's Family plan covers up to 6 for $15.00/mo, one more person for less money.

Every person on Onerep's plan also gets the same unlimited name, phone number, and address coverage as a solo account. That matters because a lot of data removal services put limits on how many aliases or addresses you can submit per person, including Incogni.

Incogni limits you to three home addresses, three emaiils addresses, and three phone numbers. Onerep doesn't, so a family that's moved a few times or has members who go by more than one name isn't stuck choosing which details to prioritize.

What we didn’t like

Like Incogni, Onerep locks unlimited custom removals behind its top tier. If you expect to need help with sites outside either service's standard coverage, that's a cost to factor in either way. Plus, Onerep's entry tier only covers people-search sites, not non-public data brokers.

Star rating summary

Onerep received a 4.5 star rating because it offers automated scans, a tidy dashboard, and removal requests across 318-870+ data brokers.

However, Onerep received a lower experience score because we're concerned about the background of Onerep's CEO, who founded dozens of people-search sites.

  • Creates unlimited masked email addresses and phone numbers so companies never get your real info in the first place
  • Includes scam call protection, a VPN, password manager, dark web monitoring, and $1M in ID theft insurance on every plan

What we liked

Cloaked tackles the data collection problem from the start by creating aliases. Its alias system generates unlimited masked email addresses and phone numbers you can hand out instead of your real ones, so companies never collect your actual info in the first place.

Every Cloaked plan bundles a VPN, password manager, scam call protection, dark web monitoring, and $1 million in ID theft insurance at no extra cost.

Compare that to Incogni, which is a focused, removal-only tool by default. You'd need to pay for its Coveron to receive identity theft protection or for Surfshark One+ for its Alternative ID masking tool.

What we didn’t like

Incogni covers more data brokers automatically: 420+ versus Cloaked's 350+. Its Unlimited plan also adds unlimited custom removals across 2,000+ additional sites with a human privacy specialist, something Cloaked doesn't offer at any tier.

Cloaked also gave us some trouble during testing. First, Email Guard failed to load on both Android and iPhone. Then, we tried to reach out to support about Cloaked's 30-day money-back guarantee, but they couldn't confirm it exists.

Star rating summary

Cloaked earned a 4.7 for its user-friendly data removal apps and robust digital privacy features. It includes the same 350+ broker coverage across monthly and annual plans and offers a lot of privacy extras, including unlimited aliases, scam call protection, and a VPN. It also bundles identity theft insurance and a password manager for online security.

We docked Cloaked in the Value and Features categories because it's pricier than competitors, and it lacks custom removal requests. Customer support was also unresponsive when we needed assistance.

Optery

What we liked

If you need data removal for more than yourself, then Onerep edges out Incogni on family coverage. Incogni's Family plan covers up to 5 people for $15.99/mo; Onerep's Family plan covers up to 6 for $15.00/mo, one more person for less money. Every person on Onerep's plan also gets the same unlimited name, phone number, and address coverage as a solo account.

That coverage detail matters more than it sounds. A lot of data removal services put limits on how many aliases or addresses you can submit per person, especially on entry-level plans. Onerep doesn't, so a family that's moved a few times or has members who go by more than one name isn't stuck choosing which details to prioritize.

Onerep also throws in data breach monitoring at every tier, something you'd otherwise expect to pay more for, and it holds SOC 2 Type II certification as of July 2025. That's a meaningfully higher security bar than a one-time audit, since it evaluates how the company's controls perform over months, not just a single snapshot.

What we didn’t like

Optery’s paid plans get expensive quickly — you can easily pay several times more per year than what you would with Incogni.

Additionally, while Optery uses AES-256 encryption on data at rest (not in transit or in use), it uses weaker encryption on data in transit, which may be a deal-breaker for the most staunch privacy advocates.

Optery specs

Optery received a high star rating of 4.8 due to its affordable starting price, full suite of data removal features, and multiple ways to contact customer service.

Optery had a less-than-perfect score in the experience category due to its deceptive marketing practices. Its support is also limited to email only.

  • Covers 420+ data brokers on all plans

Advice from the experts

All About Cookies asked data privacy experts to weigh in on best practices.

What risks should consumers be aware of before giving their phone number or email address to companies or service providers requesting them?

Bottom line

If you’re looking to get your personal information off the internet but don’t want to use Incogni, there are plenty of other excellent data removal tools to choose from. DeleteMe is available at an affordable price, and Aura is a powerful identity theft protection suite with limited data removal features.

How we test and rate data removal services

Our team has conducted hands-on testing on 10+ data removal services using a consistent process. We sign up one to four weeks before our formal testing begins, giving each service time to scan for our personal information and contact data brokers to remove our data.

Then, we evaluate each product across five areas:

  • Core features (50%): We record the maximum number of data broker sites each service scans and whether it offers custom removals for sites outside its standard coverage.
  • Editor's score (25%): We use each service ourselves, evaluating security practices, company reputation, and the ease of use of the interface.
  • Extras (10%): We check whether each service also includes privacy reports, dark web monitoring, identity monitoring, and the option for family plans, awarding one point per included feature.
  • Customer service (10%): We evaluate the support options available, especially if there are multiple ways to get in touch, such as live chat, email, and phone.
  • Value (5%): We compare each service's lowest viable price on the plan that actually delivers automated removals.

We test all data removal services at least once a year. To learn more about how we test, read our full data removal testing methodology here.

FAQs

How do I stop companies from collecting my data?

In some cases, you can opt out of data collection by rejecting cookies or denying app permissions on your phone.

Unfortunately, these tactics won't work with data brokers and people search sites. The only thing you can do is request that your data be removed, which is where Incogni and its alternatives come in.

What is a data broker?

A data broker is a business or website that collects publicly available data about individuals or businesses, aggregates it into profiles, and then sells these profiles to other people or businesses.

The amount of data these sites are able to legally collect is astonishing — nearly any personal detail you can think of is fair game.

How can I remove my data from the internet?

Most websites that retain personal information have a way to request that this information be removed. You can also opt out of future data collection in some cases.

The process is different for pretty much every site, and you should expect it to be a long and aggravating process, especially if you want to be thorough. Check out our guide to removing information from the internet for help and tips.
