Best for Dedicated Server Experts
Best for Managed Dedicated Servers
InterServer is our top pick for cheap dedicated hosting providers, offering the best overall value for the money in terms of server resources and customer service. It’s worth mentioning, though, that affordability is relative when it comes to dedicated servers, which are always going to be on the expensive side.
If you want lower pricing, you can always look to IONOS, which offers a more DIY experience. If money isn’t the problem, but you need server administration expertise, Bluehost offers a more expensive service that includes fully managed dedicated servers. That means you don’t have to handle server management yourself.
This guide will provide all the information you need to decide which cheap dedicated server hosting plan is right for you.

InterServer: Best for hosting with dedicated server experts
What we liked
Great customer support: All dedicated servers at InterServer are semi-managed by default, with extra management services available. Our experience with the support team was fast and smooth, which is what you want if the hosting company is going to do a lot of the technical work for you.
Great value for the money: While Interserver’s “standard” dedicated server plans are as expensive as you’d expect, the company has a “Market Place” page with some fantastic deals on fairly powerful servers. These deals are temporary, however, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
IPMI-compatible: The Intelligent Platform Monitoring Interface is a technology that allows you to remotely access server features. For example, it can let you power up a server that’s been turned off, or install an operating system remotely without physical access. This is incredibly useful for any dedicated server.
What we didn’t like
Fully managed servers cost more: InterServer’s dedicated hosting plans are only partially managed by default. This means the support team can reinstall the OS for you or fix basic issues with common server and hosting technologies. Anything more advanced will cost more.
Test results
Our performance testing of InterServer’s shared hosting plans didn’t go well. There were a couple of service interruptions, and server response times varied widely. This was with InterServer’s shared hosting, however, which isn’t InterServer’s specialty. When comparing shared hosting vs dedicated hosting, InterServer’s dedicated offering is much, much better.

Star rating summary
In our rating system, the most important categories are features, security, and performance. InterServer scored 5/5 in features and security, with similarly high scores across all the other categories, aside from performance. But keep in mind that those performance scores relate to InterServer’s shared hosting plans, in any case, not its dedicated server performance.
We’ve seen solid performance from the provider’s dedicated hosting plans, which we rate as providing great value and offering first-class customer support.
InterServer earned a high star rating of 4.6 due to its competitive pricing, extensive hosting features, and comprehensive security measures.
Our biggest issue was with InterServer's shared hosting performance, with inconsistent load times and failed stress test.

Bluehost: Best for managed dedicated servers
What we liked
Fully managed servers: If you don’t have any experience with managing servers, you’ll appreciate that Bluehost’s dedicated hosting plans are fully managed by default, and the company’s staff will handle anything and everything technical for you.
Three dedicated IPs per server: Every dedicated server should include a dedicated IP address that only your server uses. Bluehost goes the extra mile, though, and you can purchase up to three different IP addresses per server. While some people may not need this, it can be useful when building out your infrastructure, especially if you have some things you want to make public and other things on the server that are just for internal use.
Easy software installation and site migration: Bluehost broadly assumes that you’ll want to host a substantial, complex website on your server. If that’s your plan, you’ll find it easy to install the CMS of your choice, and there’s even a free tool for migrating WordPress websites from other hosts.
What we didn’t like
Higher prices: The fully managed service is a double-edged sword, as you’ll be paying a pretty hefty price for it compared to unmanaged plans. The cheapest preconfigured dedicated server plan costs $144.19/mo, with a 36-month term that renews at $191.79/mo. In addition, there are no special deals to be found here, unfortunately.
Test results
Bluehost didn’t have any issues during our performance tests of its shared hosting plans. The page loading times were fast, there was 100% uptime, and the average server response times were great. During the stress test, meanwhile, Bluehost’s servers barely broke a sweat and continued to deliver excellent response times.

Star rating summary
Bluehost did very well in our review, scoring 5/5 across the features, performance, and security categories, making it one of the best services we’ve tested. If you want a fully managed dedicated server hosting solution, it’s an excellent pick and offers a lot of value for its price.
Bluehost received a high star rating of 4.8 due to its extensive web hosting features and reliable performance.
Bluehost offers everything you need from a web hosting service, but it's not as affordable as its competitors. We also believe the WordPress installation process could be improved.

IONOS: Best for cheap scalability
What we liked
Great server deals: You can find temporary deals on dedicated servers with IONOS that are even cheaper than those on InterServer (think around $40/mo, rather than $60-$70 per month). However, keep in mind that these will often have significantly fewer server resources than the plans you’ll find on InterServer and may have less than half the RAM or storage and sometimes fewer than half the number of CPU cores.
Premium assistance is available: If you don’t know how to manage a server yourself, the IONOS team can do it for you. In our opinion, it’s great for any business owner to have that option.
Great security features: All of the hosts on this list are security-conscious providers. IONOS goes that extra mile, though, when scanning for malicious activity and offers a robust firewall. Overall, we were very impressed with IONOS’ approach to security.
What we didn’t like
Managed servers cost extra: IONOS does offer a managed server option, but it will substantially negate any savings you may have made from getting a deal. InterServer, on the other hand, at least offers a semi-managed approach without charging more.
Test results
IONOS did well in our performance tests of its shared plans, with 100% uptime, reliable average server response times, and a solid showing in the stress test. IONOS’s plans have a general reputation for reliability, and in our experience, the company lives up to its reputation.

Star rating summary
IONOS scored very highly in all of the most important categories, with a perfect 5/5 in both performance and security. It lost half a point in the features department, as it requires you to do some things yourself. You’ll get more out of IONOS if you have some server administration experience.
Nevertheless, the dedicated plans come with strong security features, and there are great managed server options. When comparing Bluehost vs. IONOS, IONOS can also be a much more affordable option for dedicated hosting.
IONOS received a high star rating of 4.7 due to its highly intuitive dashboard, comprehensive features for affordable prices, and impressive performance.
Although we had a positive testing experience with IONOS, it received in a lower score in the experience category due to the upsells on various pages of the dashboard. IONOS also lacks built-in content delivery network.

How to choose the best cheap dedicated server plan
There are several important factors when choosing the right dedicated server for your needs. First, you’ll want to work out exactly what kind of resources you need to handle operations on your server, and how many users you expect to be accessing it. If you’re uncertain, work with your dev team to come to an answer.
You can then compare each plan based on the following factors:
- CPU: Check out the core counts and the clock rate of the CPU. You might want a server with 64 cores that run a little slower, or four that run very, very quickly. AMD server CPUs also tend to give a bit more value for the money right now.
- RAM: Generally speaking, you’ll want lots of RAM for handling tasks.
- Storage: Do you need fast SSD storage to handle high traffic? Or slower, larger HDDs for storing lots of data that you won’t have to access too much?
- Security: While the security of a dedicated server is largely up to the person managing it, you’ll want your host to offer DDoS protection (to avoid having your service taken down by botnets), external firewalls (to filter out malicious traffic before it reaches your server), and malware scanners (which can keep an eye on traffic and your server for any malicious files or activity).
- Control panels: If you’re not a server admin expert or don’t employ one, it's helpful if your server comes with a control panel to make your life easier.
- Managed vs. unmanaged: Some hosts offer managed servers, which means that they can actually handle all of the technical work for you, and set your configuration up to the point where you don’t have to worry about the server itself. This typically costs a lot more than using unmanaged servers, where you are fully responsible for managing the server.
Bottom line: The best cheap dedicated server hosting
Our favorite host for cheap dedicated servers is InterServer because dedicated servers are its specialty, and it offers great deals. InterServer offers very solid managed hosting services, with every dedicated server semi-managed by default, which can be very helpful.
Bluehost is a good option for those who want an all-inclusive, fully managed service at a reasonable price compared to its competitors. IONOS, meanwhile, offers some of the cheapest dedicated server deals we’ve seen and great security features to boot.
All in all, you could pick any of the three and have a good experience, but InterServer provides the best of both worlds with its pricing and features.
How we test web hosting services
We use our proprietary grading rubric to evaluate web hosts based on performance, ease of use, features, support, and overall value. Our hands-on approach ensures our ratings reflect how each service actually performs in the real world, so you can choose a host with confidence.
Our process starts with signing up for each service and setting up a real website, just like you would. We run page speed, uptime, and stress tests to measure reliability and performance under load. We also explore the dashboard, test security tools, and contact support to see how responsive and helpful it is.

FAQs
How much does affordable dedicated hosting cost?
Affordable dedicated hosting plans can cost anywhere from around $50/mo, if you find a good deal, to hundreds per month for the most powerful servers and fully managed dedicated server hosting. Dedicated hosting can be fantastic, but we only recommend it if you really need dedicated server resources. If you’re on a budget, check out our VPS vs. dedicated hosting guide to see if VPS plans might be a better fit for you, while if scalability is key, you may want to consider cloud hosting.
What’s the best, cheapest dedicated server hosting?
The best, cheapest dedicated server offer we recommend is a $41/mo deal on IONOS with a 4-core Xeon CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of HDD storage. That said, both IONOS and InterServer offer pretty good temporary deals, and InterServer has a server available at the time of writing for $74/mo with a similar processor, but 64 GB of RAM, and 22 TB HDD, and another option at the same price, with a 12-core CPU and two 2 TB SSDs. IONOS’s deal is a lot cheaper, but InterServer’s deals offer a lot more resources and overall power for the money, so what you pick will depend on your priorities.
Can you upgrade cheap dedicated servers?
Yes, you can generally upgrade cheap dedicated servers. Most services will offer an option to pay more per month to add more RAM or storage, if you need it. However, if you need a substantial upgrade to your CPU, you may need to rent a more powerful server and have all your files and apps moved over to it.
