ID Resolve plans

ID Resolve has some exciting features, like an email health checker that scans the internet to see if your email was involved in a data breach or opt-out services that stop pre-approved credit mailings and marketing phone calls, which thieves can use to steal your personal information. Plans are available for Individual or Individual + Spouse.

  • ID Resolve: Basic coverage includes creditor notification, credit freeze and dispute assistance, credit reports and monitoring, lost wallet assistance, emergency cash advance, pre-approved credit card opt-outs, and medical ID fraud monitoring.
  • ID Resolve 360: Includes all of the features of ID Resolve, plus monthly credit refreshes, instant alerts, email health checks, ScamAssist® research service, digital security software, and a tool that checks for past instances of identity theft and fraud.

We couldn't find any information stating that ID Resolve offers refunds, and there was no offer of a free trial or money-back guarantee.

LifeLock plans

LifeLock offers a lot. Each of the plans we listed below is for a single person. Couples receive the same features per person, and family plans include unique features for children. Each family plan can cover up to five children.

  • Standard: Offers basic coverage with identity theft insurance, ID and Social Security number (SSN) alerts, and one-bureau credit monitoring. Identity theft insurance up to $1.05 million.
  • Advantage: Includes all Standard plan features plus identity lock, phone takeover monitoring, alerts on crime in your name, and buy now pay later alerts. Identity theft insurance up to $1.2 million.

LifeLock and ID Resolve both offer ongoing identity monitoring, but credit monitoring is limited with the first tier of both services. LifeLock Standard only includes one-bureau credit monitoring with TransUnion and the basic ID Resolve plan doesn't include any credit monitoring.

Some of the ID Resolve's advanced features, like an email health checker, emergency cash advance, and medical ID theft monitoring, are excellent additions to the primary service.

LifeLock is far more robust in terms of features. It can monitor your social media accounts, home titles, 401(k) and investment accounts, utilities, and more.

Additionally, LifeLock offers up to $1.25 million in identity theft insurance with its starting plan and up to $3 million with its highest tier. ID Resolve offers $1 million on all plans.

If you become a victim of identity theft, you’ll have a dedicated remediation specialist with either ID Resolve or LifeLock. You also get extras like stolen wallet protection and multiple alerts to help you safeguard your identity. Since identity theft losses can be devastating, having these services in your back pocket can save you time, money, and headaches.

WinnerLifeLock. It offers more identity monitoring, credit monitoring, and identity theft insurance than ID Resolve.

You give a lot of personal information to identity theft protection services, so it’s important to know how it handles your data privacy. You deserve to know how they protect the information you entrust to them and who can access all that personal information.

We’re not in love with third-party sharing, especially when it’s for marketing purposes. LifeLock does, which is always disappointing. You can opt out of sharing your personal data by clicking the privacy settings link in the Norton LifeLock footer.

But we were impressed that ID Resolve doesn’t share data for marketing purposes. We couldn’t find any instance of it in the privacy policy. ID Resolve also clearly states that it "does not sell or rent any of your personal information to affiliates or unaffiliated third parties."

Winner: ID Resolve. It’s rare to find any security product that doesn’t share your data with third parties, but we couldn’t find any instance in ID Resolve’s data-sharing policy.

ID Resolve has a modern interface we found helpful, but we had to wait 48 hours for the service to activate, which was strange. Most other services may make you wait for alerts and your credit report to populate from the three major credit bureaus as it collects data, but you can still access the portal.

We also couldn't make ID Resolve's credit features work at all. When we called customer support, they were completely unhelpful. We never got the credit monitoring features to work during our entire testing time.

With LifeLock, we could access our portal from the beginning, even as we were waiting for our credit reports. We like that LifeLock offers apps for iOS and Android, which ID Resolve lacks.

LifeLock is also far more accessible with support options, offering live chat and phone support. You may not always want to wait on the phone, so having the ability to use a chat feature or search online guides is helpful.

Overall, LifeLock was much easier to navigate regarding user-friendliness, working features, and support. ID Resolve made us jump through several hoops to cancel our account, while LifeLock made it easy and offered a refund.

Winner: LifeLock. It offers more compatibility and support options than ID Resolve.

ID Resolve vs. LifeLock alternatives

ID Resolve is a decent identity protection service, but LifeLock ranks among our top recommendations. We determined the best identity theft protection tools by evaluating their value, monitoring coverage, credit monitoring, identity recovery options, and more.

Along with LifeLock, we also highly recommend OmniWatch and Aura. See how these three services compare below:

FAQs

Is there anything better than LifeLock?

Yes, we believe Aura is better than LifeLock. Aura is our top recommended identity theft protection service because it offers a full suite of monitoring tools along with device security features like an antivirus, VPN, and password manager.

Aura also offers all its features with every plan, which we appreciate over LifeLock's subscription tiers.

What are the complaints about LifeLock?

Our biggest complaints about LifeLock are the renewal prices and the fact that it shares data with third parties. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wasn’t happy with how LifeLock handled its security breach and refunded customers.

If you check the Consumer Affairs website, there are a lot of 1-star reviews for LifeLock complaining about double billing. The issues are a concern, especially for a service that’s expensive.

What is the best company to fix identity theft?

There are several identity theft protection companies best equipped to handle identity theft. We like Aura, LifeLock, OmniWatch, and others.

When evaluating an identity theft protection service, you should see how it handles remediation. White glove means someone will walk you through the entire process or handle much of it.

You also want to look for language that shows the company is committed to assisting you until the end of the identity restoration process.

ID Resolve vs. LifeLock: which is better?

LifeLock is the better identity theft protection service over ID Resolve. It offers more features, customer service options, and plans for individuals, couples, and families. We also had no issues with features working as intended when testing the product.

While we don’t love the renewal pricing or the fact that it shares data with third parties, you get much more bang for your identity protection buck with a LifeLock subscription than with ID Resolve. Still, ID Resolve provides solid coverage for individuals at an affordable price.

If neither of these services is what you’re looking for, we’ve included some suggestions below and compiled a guide to identity theft protection and credit monitoring. Whatever you do, make sure you’re using some kind of protection. Identity theft can be a nightmare, but these services can help you get back to normal quickly and painlessly.
