Hostinger: Best for ease of use
What we liked
Dedicated Rust/gaming server plans: Hostinger has specifically designed a number of VPS hosting plans for game servers. Not all VPS hosts can handle the intense CPU usage and other factors inherent to running game servers, so gaming-specific plans are handy.
Easy server setup: Hostinger offers one-click installers for a variety of games, making it easy to get started. If you have little to no experience setting up game servers, Hostinger is the place to start.
Worldwide data centers: The closer you are to your game server, the less you have to worry about things like lag. Hostinger has data centers around the world, making it easy to set up a server that feels butter-smooth.
What we didn’t like
Expensive-ish renewal prices: Okay, it’s actually the cheapest option on this list. However, Rust’s minimum server requirements mean that while your hosting will start out cheap, Hostinger’s Game Panel 4 renews at $26.99/mo. It can be a shock if you don’t check the fine print.
Test results
Hostinger performed well, with 100% uptime and reasonable average server response times. But it performed amazingly in the stress test, with 14 ms server response times, showing that Hostinger’s infrastructure is no stranger to heavy traffic.

Star rating summary
Hostinger justifies its status as our top pick by earning 5/5 in features, security, and performance. Those are the three most important categories in our rating system, so that matters. It scores pretty well in all the other categories, too.
Hostinger earned a near-perfect star rating of 4.9 because it is user-friendly and comprehensive, provides reliable performance, and is affordable for small- to medium-sized businesses.

IONOS: Best for hosting value
What we liked
Hosting plan variety: IONOS comes with many different types of hosting, and it supports running game servers on most of them, including VPS hosting, cloud hosting, and dedicated servers. Pick and choose what you need, then get to playing with your friends.
Official game server installation guides: While IONOS doesn’t have one-click-install options, its knowledge base includes handy guides to installing a number of different game servers, including Rust. It shows that the devs have considered the game server use case when designing their infrastructure, and that makes a difference.
High-value plans: For example, Hostinger’s Game Panel 4 plan renews at $26.99/mo with 4 CPU cores, 16 GB RAM, and 200 GB storage; IONOS’ VPS XL plan renews at $30/mo with 8 CPU cores, 16 GB RAM, and 480 GB storage. IONOS costs a little bit more, but you get a lot more storage and extra CPU cores. Rust is a somewhat CPU-intensive game on the server side, and mods take up space.
What we didn’t like
You have to do everything manually: On the VPS plans, cloud hosting, and dedicated servers, IONOS expects you to handle everything yourself. This includes the actual installation and configuration of your Rust server.
Test results
IONOS passed all of our performance tests with flying colors. In particular, take note of the reasonably low server response times, 100% uptime, and solid performance in the stress test. IONOS can handle plenty of traffic, if needed.

Star rating summary
With IONOS giving you all the control you could want over your server, it expects you to know what you’re doing. Thus, the score suffers a little in the features department. But, the servers are fast and secure, which helps IONOS to keep its overall rating high.
IONOS received a high star rating of 4.7 due to its highly intuitive dashboard, comprehensive features for affordable prices, and impressive performance.
Although we had a positive testing experience with IONOS, it received in a lower score in the experience category due to the upsells on various pages of the dashboard. IONOS also lacks built-in content delivery network.

InterServer: Best for large communities
What we liked
Managed hosting: InterServer offers a degree of managed hosting services, even on its dedicated servers, so its support team can handle a lot of the technical stuff for you. You may have to pay a little extra for some things, though.
Good dedicated servers: Dedicated servers are InterServer’s forte, and it even has a marketplace with limited-time offers where you can snag a dedicated server at surprisingly reasonable prices. (As of this writing, there’s one available for $64/mo that could handle a Rust server, but this price might not be available in the future.) For a large community, you’ll want to go with a dedicated server.
Good customer support: Our experiences with the support team were smooth, and the staff was helpful. If you’re going for managed hosting services, you definitely want a support team that knows their stuff, and InterServer has that.
What we didn’t like
Focus on dedicated servers for gaming: While Hostinger and IONOS can run game servers on their VPS infrastructure, InterServer recommends using its dedicated servers only for Rust or any other game. And dedicated server hosting is expensive by nature.
Test results
A quick note: These results look less than ideal because they were conducted on InterServer’s shared hosting. And if shared website hosting is what you want, then there are better options. But this author can tell you from personal experience that the dedicated servers are much better, because you’re not sharing them.

Star rating summary
InterServer scored well in our tests for overall hosting features and security. At this point, I’ll remind you that the performance testing was conducted on InterServer’s shared hosting and does not reflect what dedicated servers can do. Otherwise, InterServer offers a pretty great experience overall.
InterServer earned a high star rating of 4.6 due to its competitive pricing, extensive hosting features, and comprehensive security measures.
Our biggest issue was with InterServer's shared hosting performance, with inconsistent load times and failed stress test.

How much does Rust server hosting cost in 2025?
Costs start at $25/mo and — if you have a large community and a dedicated server — can climb into the hundreds per month. You technically can get cheaper plans, but after some research, I wouldn’t.
The cost of server hosting plans depends on the number of CPU cores included, as well as the amount of RAM and storage. While you can minimize the CPU cores and RAM needed by playing on a smaller map, you can only go so low.
You’ll want at least a few cores and 16 GB of RAM for stability, even with a fairly small player count. Hostinger’s Game Panel 4 plan costs $10.49/mo until renewal, at which point it will cost $26.99/mo, and it comes with 4 CPU cores, 16 GB of RAM, and more than enough storage at 200 GB.
Bottom line: The best Rust server hosting provider of 2025
Hostinger is the best pick for most people because its reasonably priced plans, combined with one-click installs, make life so much easier. But IONOS offers more bang for your buck when it comes to pricing, and it offer full control for people who like to be hands-on.
Meanwhile, InterServer’s dedicated server offerings are expensive, but oh-so-worth-it when you have a ton of players on your private server.
As always, it all comes down to what you need. The important thing is having fun by ruining everyone else’s fun in PVP. That’s the Rust way of life.
How we test web hosting services
We use our proprietary grading rubric to evaluate web hosts based on performance, ease of use, features, support, and overall value. Our hands-on approach ensures our ratings reflect how each service actually performs in the real world, so you can choose a host with confidence.
Our process starts with signing up for each service and setting up a real website, just like you would. We run page speed, uptime, and stress tests to measure reliability and performance under load. We also explore the dashboard, test security tools, and contact support to see how responsive and helpful it is.

FAQs
Can you self-host a Rust server?
You absolutely can self-host a Rust server in a variety of ways. If you have the know-how and the hardware, you can even do it from your home. But it’s a lot easier to rent a server from a hosting company, all things considered, and platforms like Hostinger can even install the server for you.
How much does it cost to host your own Rust server?
It costs anywhere from roughly $26/mo to hundreds per month to run a Rust server. It’s a pretty CPU- and RAM-heavy game server, so if you want to run the minimum recommended specs for a decent-sized map, it’s never going to be too cheap.
Can you rent a Rust server?
Yes, you can rent a Rust server, in the sense that you can get hosting for one. A “premade” Rust server is not really an option. Even dedicated Rust server providers will spin up a brand-new one for you when you sign up for the service, with a default configuration that you can (usually) modify.
