How we test and rate data removal services

We take testing data removal services seriously, using a consistent approach across 10+ services to give you reliable information to make the right choice.

We sign up for each service 1-4 weeks before our full review begins. This gives the service time to find our personal information across the web, contact data brokers to remove it, and show us how well their process actually works through real results and reports.

The best services reach out to hundreds of data broker and people search sites, not just a handful. We make sure services don't just send one removal and call it done. Instead, we look for companies that actively monitor these sites and follow up when your information pops back up (because it often does).

Our final ratings consider several key factors: how well the service works, whether it's worth the price, how they protect your information, and how easy it is to use. We also factor in customer support quality, since you'll want help if issues come up.

Incogni plans

Incogni previously had only one tier, but now there's an Unlimited tier with additional removal options. You can also select your plan based on the number of people who need coverage.

And Incogni is so committed to helping people reclaim their digital privacy that it offers free scans and opt-out guides so anyone can remove their data even if they can't purchase a subscription.

  • Standard: Incogni automatically scans 420+ data brokers and people search sites. It also includes transparent reports on the status of your data removal and continued searches to ensure your information doesn’t appear elsewhere. You can purchase an annual or monthly subscription.
  • Unlimited: This plan builds upon Standard by adding unlimited custom removals and complex removals. Although the Unlimited plan is only available as an annual subscription, it can be purchased for both individuals and families.

Privacy Bee plans

Privacy Bee offers three plans: Essentials, Pro, and Signature. Although all plans offer a whopping 879+ removals, only the top-tier plan includes custom removals, dark web monitoring, and priority expedited removals.

With Privacy Bee, you can purchase annual plans for individuals, couples, families, and businesses; however, the costs become exorbitant as the number of people added to the plan increases.

  • Privacy Bee Essentials: The base plan claims to offer 879+ automatic removals, continuous monitoring, unlimited emails, phones, addresses, and alt. names for online identity protection, real-time dashboard reporting, and monthly reports.
  • Privacy Bee Pro: On top of the base offerings, you get custom removals for 182,295 sites, Google, Yahoo, and Bing search monitoring, as well as search result removal, doxxing protection with social media listening, monitoring and removals of paste sites, dark web monitoring, mass-marketing opt-out, and the cherry on top: your house pic blurred out on Google Maps and Apple Maps.
  • Privacy Bee Signature: All of the Pro features plus priority expedited removals and assistance for complex takedowns and critical exposures. You’ll receive 24/7 monitoring and removal from data brokers, people searches, and marketing lists. You’ll also receive Privacy Bee’s ongoing data removal services that continually monitor the internet and the dark web for your data.

Privacy Bee main dashboard

Winner: Incogni. Privacy Bee boasts high numbers of automatic removals and custom removal requests, but Incogni offers unlimited custom removals, meaning there is no cap on stopping the tons of data brokers and people search sites that aggregate our data. Plus, Incogni is transparent about which sites are targeted.

Privacy Bee acts more like a hornet, aggressively attacking data brokers, people search sites, and even the dark web to remove as much of your information as possible.

Comparatively, Incogni scans a database of brokers while also looking for private firms. You can also submit unlimited custom removals with the top plan.

One of the features we really appreciate from Privacy Bee is the email monitoring. Much better than Gmail or other providers, it lets you decide what you think is spam and then helps you remove that junk from your inbox. Incogni also helps with marketing list removals, but not from the source of your email.

There’s a stark contrast between the features you receive with Incogni versus Privacy Bee. If you’re new to data removal, Incogni will help you ease into it and learn about the service. If you need more robust protection and monitoring, Privacy Bee offers extras that’ll thoroughly remove all your personally identifiable information.

Additional features

Incogni doesn’t include any extra features, but it can be bundled with top-notch security software, including Surfshark VPN, Surfshark CleanWeb (an ad blocker), Surfshark Alert (ID monitoring), and much more as part of Surfshark One+.

Which data removal service is more secure?

Data removal services collect a lot of personal information, so it’s natural to be concerned about protecting that information. We reviewed each service’s privacy policy to understand what data is collected, how it’s protected, and whether it’s shared with any third parties for purposes other than providing services.

Incogni is transparent about the encryption protocols used to protect your data, and it offers two-factor authentication (2FA) to further secure your account from hackers.

Neither service’s privacy policy included language indicating that it would share your private information with third parties for marketing or other non-essential services. The third parties with whom your information is shared are used solely for operational purposes, such as processing payments.

But Incogni has the leg up on Privacy Bee because it's the first data removal service to be audited by a third-party firm. Released in August 2025, Deloitte provided an assurance report confirm that Incogni does cover 420+ brokers, receives removal confirmations from 420+ brokers, and that it doesn't sell customers' personal data, among other things.

Winner: Incogni. Only Incogni offers 2FA, transparent data encryption, and its the first data removal service to acquire a third-party assurance report.

Data removal services are typically web-based platforms, so they should work any browser. However, Incogni has added an Android app to its arsenal. With the app, you can run exposure scans and view your privacy dashboard.

Incogni doesn’t include a browser extension, whereas Privacy Bee does for Firefox. You can use the extension to see your data relationship with each page you visit and customize how your data is used on that site.

As far as customer support goes, Incogni offers 24/7 live support as well as chat and social media, so you can connect with a representative ASAP.

Privacy Bee offers some immediate options, including chat and phone, as well as a dedicated privacy concierge. But we still had to wait for support from Privacy Bee.

Winner: Incogni. It's a user-friendly service that offers a broad range of support options..
